Keep reconfirming your flight to Bonaire, even though KLM will tell you that is not required.
A couple of years ago, they decided not to fly the flight I was ticketed on and moved me to one that was 12 hours earlier, but they did not call my contact number and tell me.
Then when I showed up to check in for my flight, they told me I had missed my plane and would have to buy another ticket.
Finally I found somebody who could tell in the computer that they had not telephoned my contact number.
But I had to do a lot of searching and arguing before KLM would give me a new ticket to Bonaire.
Never trust any airline. Always keep reconfirming.
But KLM flights are much nicer than the ones from the US to Bonaire, so you are lucky. :-)
KLM has never lost my luggage, and I have flown KLM quite a bit.

Meals on KLM will Probably be Chicken or Pasta. At least that is what they have been feeding us for the past 3 years.

No complaints from us, the chicken or pasta had been going on for about 7 years:-) I am a meat eater but the pasta is usually better. Make sure you know the destination code of your home airport and check that is what is put on your baggage, last year we were going to Humberside and the luggage was going to Heathrow, only a difference of about 200 miles! Compared to the trouble that some American based flights have KLM is a dream. You can re-confirming by internet but Michael at Chat'n'Browse will confirm that trying to get/change seats is rarely successful!

KLM lost all of our luggage for a couple of days last month. We don't reconfirm but we do check in on line and pre select our seats.

Brian did you Check in on line just from Amsterdam or did you have a connection from elsewhere? I am travelling from the UK in June and have booked online and have an E ticket and am wondering if i can check in online for my connecting flight as well?
cheers,Tim.

Hi timothy
I also have a flight from the UK to Amsterdam and the KLM to Bonaire. if anybody has any experience on checking in online i would like to hear about it. I'm a little sceptic about doing it, but on the other hand, if thing are easier that way, maybe I should look into it. Any advise is appreciated.
Iben

There is no problem with checking in on line from the UK but you can't print out your boarding cards if you fly from some of the smaller local airports. However you can choose your seats etc. Unlike Brian I have never managed to connect with KLM to choose seats on the way back :-( but you can reconfirm. I go to Chat'n'Browse and annoy Michael by swearing at the internet.

We check in for the Birmingham to Amsterdam KLM flight as well as the main flight to Bonaire on-line - you can do this from 30 hours before the second flight departs. During the on-line check-in process you can select your preferred seats, and also request any special meals that you may require. As we fly from Birmingham we are able to print off our boarding passes for both flights.

We do the same thing in reverse 30 hours before our return flight departs Amsterdam for Birmingham. For the return flights we don't print off our boarding passes (too difficult - no printer!) and haven't had a problem checking in at Flamingo Airport, the check-in clerks print them off for us.

Thanks for the info,i'm flying from Manchester so i should be ok,like the fact that you can pick your own seat, when i went in 2004 i was stuck in the middle seat, not good when you are 6,2 tall and have a gammy knee.

Hi brian
thanks for the info. I'm starting to warm up on the idea of checking in online:-) Just another question...sorry guys... but where do I check in? Airport(heathrow) homepage or the airlines homepages? I'm flying Lufthansa to Amsterdam and KLM to bonaire.
And also, when I get to the airport, do I still queue in check-in to hand in the bags or is there somewhere "special" I have to go? Sorry about these silly questions, but just like to as prepered as possible
Iben

You will need to register with KLM for a Flying Blue account this will also get you your KLM/AirFrance airmiles. The link below should allow you to enrol for an account then you can choose your seat etc fro the KLM flights.

https://secure.klm.com/travel/gb_en/flying_blue/programme/bam/index.htm.

I am not sure if you can check in for the Lufthansa flight. So you may have to queue for that flight. On the return flight at Flamingo Airport you will need to do a normal check in as they have a bag drop area. Have a great trip

Hi Iben
we flyed with KLM from Milan through Amsterdam till Bonaire in August. Flights were in time, food in economy is not so worse, in the average of other aircompanies, no problem with luggages, we had extra weight (4 kilos in two) and they charged anything. :-))
There are often special offers from europe to bonaire, subscrie their newsletter to know in advance.

Any more news about KLM dropping the stopover at Bonaire?
Or anything about a direct flight from the UK?
(having to go to Amsterdam both ways is the main thing stopping me going to Bonaire!)

I've heard nothing about changes in service, Rita, but it's no big deal flying the KLM cityhopper from your nearest UK city and changing in Amsterdam, which is a compact and easy airport where everybody speaks English.
Don't delay. You're missing a marvel here!

To Rita.
Going through Amsterdam is not bad. in the freeshops you can buy hitech items at half price!!(this in comparison to Italy where we live). And KLM doesn't add any costs for the first travel to reach Amsterdam, but they give you the miles for the frequent flyer programm!!

Going through Amsterdam from local airports is easy, luggage checked straight through, for us it is easier than getting to London. Don't let it put you off!!!
