We were to fly to BON from EWR this coming December and when we learned of the service cancellation called AJ to ask for a refund. They were obliging but said it would take 6-8 weeks. 9 weeks later we haven't seen a dime. We called Mastercard, explained the situation and they said they would credit our account and investigate the situation. Anyone else with a similar problem? (BTW, an e-mail to AJ was answered with an automated response telling us it would take 6-8 weeks to investigate our request.)

Hi David!

I know some people who are coming in Dec. and were originally on AJ, then AJ stopped flying and then re-scheduled them on another airline, but they had to add an additional day to their trip and they are still trying to get AJ to pay for that day as well. AJ then tried to make good on paying for the additional day, but the girl didn't know how to make payment, so she said her manager would get back to me and haven't heard since. They are indeed slow, but they claim they are going to make good for these people, we will see in time. Very unorganized airline at this point. See you on Sunday, I can smell those ribs already! :-)

Hello David:
When they cancelled my flight, they told me FOUR MONTHS to see a refund. I called AMEX immediately and they were stunned. They cancelled the charge until they investigate. AJ certainly took the money fast enough, but doesn't seem too concerned regarding its return.
Good luck,
Rich

Rich,
I successfully received a refund from AJ yesterday - for a flight last March. They had cancelled the Wed flights from Boston and called to tell me so, and asked that I go into the airport to change the tickets to an American flight. Since I live a long distance from the airport (400 miles) and couldn't go in, I was told to arrive at the ticket counter at the normal time for departure and they would re-issue the ticket. No one showed up and I laid out nearly $2000 for one-way tickets on American. (We returned on AJ). We had to fill out paperwork when we returned to Boston. Again, told that it would take 6 -8 weeks. After 8 weeks, we started calling. After talking to several people, faxing and re-writing our request, and WEEKLY phone calls for nearly 3 months, our credit card received the refund!

I also called Mastercard after waiting 8 weeks (and the purchase was made 10 months earlier). They were not as accomodating as AMEX!

Good luck, and keep a record of phone calls and names of people. Call once a week, then twice a week until you have your money refunded. Keep all your documentation and be ready to fax it again. Ask for the same person until they refer you to someone else. We eventually got to the right person to issue our refund.

Susan

Hello Susan:
What a shame you had to wait so long. I filed a claim against AJ as soon as I got off the phone the first time, and AMEX investigated then found in my favor (obviously, as AJ cancelled the flight with no redress offered) in about three weeks. So, I actually never had to pay anything as the charge was first put aside temporarily, then AMEX made it permanent in three weeks.

My wife and I are still wishing to get back to Bonaire, but will not until the flights out sort themselves out better.

Rich

I guess we were really fortunate. we booked through andy at bonaire pros and he was able to take care of everything and rebooked us on AA.and then went the extra mile and got us new tickets when the price went down $177.sometimes booking on your own isn't so efficient.
