I was driving by the airport in time to see Air Jamaica take off around 5:10 PM. Suddenly it came to a halt midway on the runway. At 8 PM it was parked at the gate. Anyone know what happened?

Ok...so why hasn't anyone responded? I'm a wee bit nervous because of all of the problems AJ has been having and I am booked on it for August 6. Would really like to know what the problem was. Ann...have you heard anything off the chat?

A local biz owner had a friend on the flight. It stopped mid take off due to engine problems. On Sun. JM flew in from CUR to drop off mechanics and a flight crew. They took off around 8 PM..

Hi Ann...yes, we know what happened. As you said above, the pilot got a red light as we were taxiing down the runway. The pilot put on the brakes! It was a fuel filter plug in the #2 engine. The pilot took us back to the gate and called Air Jam in Kingston and conferred with them. We were all taken off the plane and stayed another night in Bonaire...we were back at the airport at 12:30 PM on Sunday. Air Jam flew in mechanics and parts and we were on our way to Montego Bay approximately 7:00 PM. Of course most of us missed our connecting flights and stayed another night in Montego Bay. We just walked in the door (Monday, July 11th at 9:30 PM). To say the least, it has been a long 3 days coming home. I do have to state though, the pilot, crew, Bonaire ground personel and Air Jamaica ground crew in Montego Bay were most accommodating and kept us updated with what little information they had to keep 150 passengers at bay.

I was on the flight also. Rog & Karen must have been talking to different AJ personnel. I was very upset at the way they handled it. It was a Chinese Fire Drill getting us to rooms Saturday night.

They picked us up at the hotel at 12:30 Sunday knowing the mechanics would not be there until 4:00 so they wouldn't have to pay for our lunch.

No more Air Jamaica.

Pat, just be thankful there wasn't an in flight problem and that a potential serious situation was avoided.

Customer service takes back seat to my safety, but I'm from the south burbs of Chicago..I might look at it differently if I lived in Naperville...LOL!!!

Aborting the take off was the right thing to do, no argument there. It's the way they handled the situation afterwards that I am upset about. The original problem was more than likely due to improper maintenance.

'They picked us up at the hotel at 12:30 Sunday knowing the mechanics would not be there until 4:00 so they wouldn't have to pay for our lunch.'

And perhaps for another day's accommodations if you would have been in the rooms after checkout time.

They should have covered lunch somewhere!
