What is the best route from Houston to Bonaire? Is there a day of the week that would be better than others? thanks~

Jerri check American Airlines web site. Right now that is the only airline flying out of Houston to Bonaire. Air Jamaica has stopped their flights for now (hopefully they will reinstate the flights). If you want to fly AJ you will have to check their web site for departure cities and fly there. You can also fly to Curacao or Aruba and take a local flight on to Bonaire. It can be difficult to get to Bonaire but well worth the time and effort.

I have just returned from a trip to Bonaire.
I flew Houston to Aruba on Continental. (the flight was originally booked on AJ.) We flew Bonaire Excel to Bonaire through Curacao. On the way it worked well. The way back Bonaire Excel was late getting into Aruba and we missed the Continental flight and had to spend a costly night in Aruba.
Continental was great getting us to Houston the next day so we still made our last connection home.
While we were there most of the people we talked to who flew AA through San Juan had a host of problems from missing luggage to being put up in lousy hotels after they missed their connection to Bonaire.
All I can say is give yourself time and go with the flow there is not an "easy" way to get to Bonaire.
This is why we always go for at least two weeks.

I hear there's now a direct flight from Quito, Equador....

Cam -

I also checked the AA routing for Jerri. The best I can figure the routing is IAH (Houston Bush)to DFW to SJU to BON. It is a case of going north to go south.

Be that as it may, I will say we've used AA DFW-SJU-BON the last three years and have had no lost luggage, no missed connections and only minor flight delays. The future may not mirror the past, but I offer our experience for Jerri's consideration.

Our first trip to Bonaire on AA, while long, was the same...no lost luggage, friendly service...we're flying them again in September

Jerri,

Air Jamaica has complicated things by dropping Houston as a gateway city. I was right in the middle of planning my June trip when they dropped Houston. The other side of the coin is that AJ has some very good sales going to the rest of the Caribbean that American Airlines and the other carriers are trying to match. I ended up flying out of Houston to Miami to Curacao, where I am spending a night and day of sightseeing before taking a puddle jumper (Divi Divi) over to Bonaire. Even with the extra night's hotel and the puddle jumper each way, I am still saving almost $100 over what the AJ fare from Houston to Bonaire would have been. One thing to watch for, and I don't have an explanation for it, but I noticed that the fares can vary quite a bit from one day to the next. I used Expedia and searched for several different days, with some fares being double that of other days. If you have a little flexibility in your schedule, you may be able to get a better fare. Good luck with your search.

Steve

Jerri, hope this will help some. AA from Houston goes to Miami where you overnite and the fly to San Juan to Bonaire. Really depends on where you are coming from. As we live inbetween Houston and Dallas the fare will be a deciding factor for us.
Are you from Houston? Your profile just says Texas. We live about a 100 miles north on I-45.

We're about 1 hour from SA, 2 hrs from Austin and 4 1/2 from Houston but figured would be cheapest to leave from Houston. We had planned on flying AJ at a good rate but now looking at $760 to $850....sheesh! Good thing there's a lot of cheap shore diving! Maybe AJ will get it together in a few months (hope, hope).

Monte -

We lament to say that at the time we do not have a Bonaire trip scheduled. In the meantime, perhaps our previous experiences can help others enjoy Divers Paradise/Snokelers Heaven.

Just my 2 cents worth.... I just got back from Bon and I flew AA Boston-SJU-BON and had a minimal 2 hour delay in SJ on the way down, all of my luggage made it and I have nothing bad to say. The trip back was uneventful and I actually arrived in Boston 1/2 hour early!

Jerri, check the flights from DFW on AA. They may be a little cheaper. Check both from Houston and Dallas and take the cheaper flight. Or you can fly to Atlanta or Fort Lauderdale and then take Air Jamaica. Check them all and see what is cheaper.
