I am traveling to Bonaire for just 4 days in June. We are scheduled to fly Air Jamaica on the BWI to MB to Bonaire route. Given the recent poor service record of Air Jamaica, I am considering cancelling our trip. Missing 1 day of diving due to a flight delay would mean that we would miss out on a third of our scheduled diving.

john, it depends on how much money you would be out. if i could get a full refund or close to it, i personally would cancel. if they won't refund my air i would go and make the best of it. i was scheduled on AJ out of HOU in sept. but they stopped service and i got a full refund. most fares we use are non-refundable unless it is their fault.

We just flew AJ Boston-Montego Bay-Bonaire. We departed April 9 and returned April 17. The BOS-MBJ leg was underbooked so we were given tickets for a US Air flight which worked out fine and we caught our AJ connection from MBJ-BON without a hitch and even arrived a little early in Bonaire! We booked through Bonaire Pros, and Andy called us the night before our flight to inform us of the change to US Air. When we arrived in MBJ a rep from AJ met our US Air flight at the gate and assisted us to pass through customs at the head of the line, so that we would not miss our connection. (we had to go through customs because of the change in airlines). The flight home was delayed four hours, due to heavy rain in MBJ. We were scheduled to leave MBJ at 1650 and actually left at 2110. BUT, all airlines out of MBJ were delayed including AA and Delta. I truly believe that it was a weather related delay and not AJ's fault. It was our first time flying AJ and the service in flight is great with free drinks, a hot meal and headsets. The planes all appeared to be new and were the standard level of comfort on any coach flight. I hope Air Jamaica can hang in there, as we enjoyed flying with them. As, for the future I don't know, but they treated us ok....

A/J reports are improving every time I read a new one. We have to give them a chance to correct the problems they have or we will loose a very important carrier to Bonaire. I could have booked with AA for our May25th flight but we booked A/J from Chicago! We have made this trip for many years and I feel that we should not abandon this company at this time. It seems like AA and the other carriers are having there problems aswell... Ron

Yes, it seems as though the AJ service level has improved. I have been checking flight status over the last few weeks, and see that our route has been running on time for the most part with the exception of this past Wednesday. The Baltimore to MBJ flight was 50 minutes late and the Bonaire flight left 5 minutes early, which means that we would have missed our Bonaire connection. I am hoping that there were no Bonaire travelers on the flight that departed from Baltimore. I can't imagine that the Bonaire flight would actually leave early before all the passengers checked in.
