Hi all!!

First time poster, short time board reader :-)
We will be making our first journey to Bonaire this September. We will be flying out of JFK to Montego Bay and then on to Bonaire.
I'm trying to figure out how long I should wait until we book our flight. Of course we're trying to get the best price available, but also don't want to miss the availability of the flight.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated!
P.J.

Different people on this board have different tactics for obtaining the best price for airfare: some use services like Priceline, some do research on their own, and others, like me, use travel agents who specialize in Bonaire and can often get very good airfare via their practices of booking blocks of seats or whatever.
I have had very good luck at getting good deals on airfare from Amy at Caradonna Caribbean Tours at 1-800-328-2288. I'd suggest that you call them and ask to speak with Amy to see what she can get for you.

I personally would wait until late summer. AJ does a spring sale and a fall sale. Also, if you are up on the computer on any Thursday morning between 4am - 7am, seats are released and prices are dropped (this happens every week). Also call AJ and ask what specials they have. We fly them often and I have learned that these are probably the best ways. Also, try price line. Best of luck!

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I will keep you posted. I just get nervous about waiting because we have a pretty specific window for vacation time.

I'm as cheap as they come and always try to get the lowest fares myself, but sometimes I miss. If I do, I console myself that at least I tried to save money, but the important thing is the vacation. If the tickets cost you $100 or so more each than if you'd guessed exactly right on your timing, well that's not a big deal in the greater scheme of things. If you need to make up the money, plan to cook a few dinners more at the inn, rather than going out. (Of course, if you're already planning not to eat out, then it's harder to make up the dough.)

And if you really blow it, as I did, and find, when you decide it's the right time to buy your tickets, that AJ is already sold out on your dates, try Delta. Delta codeshares with AJ and actually buys blocks of AJ tickets and resells them. The two airlines don't communicate well, and AJ has no idea about the status of the Delta tickets - sold, unsold, or who's flying - until the day before the flight! (We're flying on Delta tickets in a few weeks.)

Good luck!

David
