Long time BonaireTalk reader. New poster. I have been traveling to Bonaire since 1991.

I live in south Florida and recently have used AJ from Miami. 10am flight to Montego Bay and into Bonaire late afternoon. Really reasonable upgrades to first class if you wish.

Planning to do a family trip in March/April and can't get there in one day. All schedules changed. Who wants to do the airport routine for a 1hr flight and then do it again the next day for the Bonaire flight?

Anyone have a better way from Miami these days?

Ray

We were booked on a late Jan flight from Miami to Mo Bay with the connection to Bonaire. Since we were coming in from MSP, we were going to overnight in Miami and catch that morning flight. They cancelled the flight on us (did not notify us, just happened to go in and check after seeing a reference here. Check the Air Jamaica thread). They had rebooked us from FT Lauderdale to Kingston to Mo Bay, getting us in like 6 hours after the Bonaire flight left. After calling them (they spotted the problem immediately) they rebooked us on an AA flight, Miami to Mo Bay (#0881). This would have worked, but we decided to fly NW out of MSP direct to Mo Bay and overnight there. You might check out the AA flight as an alternative.

Gregg, this is for an upcoming trip the end of Jan returning Feb 5. We booked through Expedia. Wyndham Rose Hall ($260) and on the way back Rose Hall Castles ($142). A few bucks, but we would have to overnight in Miami otherwise, and that is expensive also and probably not as much fun.

In Expedia, pump in a single night date and the results will give you the prices and also specify if they are available and if they need a minimum stay.

Ray,

I too have been travelling to Bonaire for a long time (1990) and it seems that every year (and sometimes twice a year) I take a different route, through different airports with different carriers. I do come from Toronto.

This year I managed to get one of the best deals ever, several hundred dollars (CDN) cheaper than in years gone by. This time I'm once again coming through Miami with American Airlines. I arrive from Toronto and take AA869 from MIA to San Juan (Dep 12:54 pm - Arr 4:22 pm) and from there with the American Eagle flight 5054 which leaves SJ at 6:30 and arrives in Bonaire at 8:38 p.m.

I know that American Eagle does not fly every day, but I adjusted. I extended my trip by 1 extra day to take the flight back with them.

Good luck, happy hunting,

John

John,

I too have traveled to Bonaire all different ways. AJ was just the easiest for me. Oh well, maybe they will realize that moving the Miami flight back to pm isn't the best idea.

Raymond,

Also remember American flys MIA/CUR non-stop. I've taken that with Divi Divi and it works great.

Be careful flying American with connecting flights to Air Jamaica. If you don't book the entire flight through American or one travel agent, you may have weight limits imposed. American let us fly to Bonaire on Air Jamaica without a problem but wanted to charge us extra for exceeding 50 lbs per bag on the way back. They weighted exactly the same in both directions. Just depends on the gate agent you get. I actually tried to get American to explain this but they never successfully did.
International on Air Jamaica is 70 lbs while domestic is 50 lbs on American. Really can be confusing if not booked properly.

You could always fly Miami-Cur with AA and from curacao to bonaire With Divi or Bonairexel.

Or Miami to San Juan and san-juan bonaire but american eagle doesn't fly in every day.

Good luck Benji,

Raymond, I ended up adding an extra day to my trip because of AJ cancelling the mia/mobay saturday flight. I found AA has flights on Saturdays from MIA-San Juan-Bon, BUT if you fly that route on a Friday, it may be much cheaper. It's almost like I get an extra day free in Bonaire since I would have had to pay for an overnight stay in Jamaica if i stuck with AJ.... less than a month 'till my trip now!
