Can anyone tell me if I can check my luggage ALL the way to Curacao when I start my trip on United, then transfer to DCA in Miami?

If not, what hassle do I have to go thru to get my luggage in Miami and transfer to DCA?

Thanks for any information. Better preparation for better travel!!!

Cathy

Be aware that DCA's record for not leaving on time is still happening. We had an apartment that we could watch the planes from and they were almost never on time. Usually at least an hour late. The day we left it still had not arrived when we departed on Air Jamaica about 4:30 when it is due in a little after 1.

First question might be are you goint to Curacao or Bonaire? If Bonaire I personlly would find another way, like Air Jamaica. If you have to fly United/DCA, then haul your own luggage over to DCA at Miami, and expect the same check in, security delays you had when you arrived at the first airport (maybe more if you get there at a peak time).
Last choice for Bonaire would probably be DCA via Curacao, and even American via San Juan can be a problem. If you use the later, bear in mind if the flight is full then a good number of people will arrive without their luggage, and the departure home is long before the sun gets up.
But, if it was easy to get to Bonaire it would probably wind up being another Cozumel, with too many people and crowded dive sites, instead of the peaceful tranquil place it is.
