This has just come through on the latest KLM web update. It's great news for all the Europeans limited to 20kg of luggage in total. Dive mags and dive organisations in the UK have been campaigning for ages so this is really good news. You must ask for the allowance at the time of booking the flight but Bob and I got our tickets for Bonaire today (42 days and counting) and they have the new allowance printed on them! HURRAH!

"Diving equipment

An exception to the standard conditions is made for passengers who are going diving. Fly to Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Capetown, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Quito and you are allowed to take an extra 10 kilograms of diving gear."

Wow, like another half a bag! Sounds like a thread, what will YOU use your 10 kilos for?

Seb, I guess that your allowance would probably be camera gear. Mine would probably be food goodies like shortbread for Michael and Kirk!

Julia, I think that the Dutch have allways been allowed 30kgs when they travel with KLM. The problem for us Brits has been the lesser allowance for our connecting flight with "Air UK" or whovever to get us to Schiphol. So far I've found that the answer is to nip down to my local airport at the time I want to fly, but one day early. I wait until everyone has been checked in & then approach the check in staff & ask if they'll let me on the next days flight with an extra 10kgs (or so) in return for a box of chocolates (which I make sure that I'm clutching in full view of them at the time. )
So far it's never failed. It even resulted in an unexpected seat upgrade once.

You sly fox, Keely....that charm just oozes out of you! Anything else slipped inside the box of chocolates, by chance?? LOL. Nice touch. Were you wearing your famous (infamous?) "fancypants" at the time by any chance?? LOL. Love those pants! LOL.

And, yes, I DO have a remarkable memory....it frightens folks at times...heh, heh, heh....Carole

What a difference a day makes, eh Seb?
Why, only yesterday I was called a SmartA$$ in the Fire Coral thread.

Just remember Andy, being often right isn't a blessing, it's a curse.
At least nobody called you an antidisestablishmentarian.
And yeah, those are some pants, you would have to have a smart mouth to wear 'em.
