FYI--Skin Diver magazine has a really nice site called Dive into Bonaire. Just click on the icon and there is lots of good information there. Their web address is www.skin-diver.com.

Saw something about the renaming a while back. Nothing like 'political correctness' extended into biology. Will the 'blackfish' be next?? Then the 'black durgon'? And what of the 'whitefish'??

Couldn't have been suggested by us. They named the fish after Goliath....not one of our boys. We'da called it Sampson Fish, or Macabbean Grouper. Maybe even an 'OY' Fish. Cause when folks see them, they go 'OY'!!!! Your phonetics clean up good, Mikey...maybe hililah hahzeh...don't remember a 'louse' in da house. Sweet dreams...now we just need to get those Curaçao-ans...Curaçaoites? to build their Goliath Grouper a good-sized condo. With pledges, of course.

Would a really large jewfish rate an a whole 'oy vay'? Or is that a fictional expression?

Glen:not fictional, but rather depends on what one has in mind to do with said fish. 'Oy Vay' indicates pain, that's the 'Vay' part. But the whole phrase could be said sarcastically or ironically. As in "you know what you can do with that fish of yours!" An Oy Vay of the proper tone could convey significant meaning. Whereas, if you dropped him on your toe, Oy Vay would just mean 'ouchie'. 'Oy' has become just an expression of surprise, as well as a short form 'ouch'. Gawd,Glen, I hope I've done better on this than 'dishonourable' if that was the word. The Scottish School Teacher says to find the exact phrase..I might be right.Carole It goes under the heading of " How can you say the whole world isn't Jewish, when the sun's real name is Sol?

I'd like to hear/see your Aleph....joke too, Michael. Also, FYI, fish in Hebrew is dallet, gimmel....pronounced "dog". Who are these people who take on the authority to change fishes names?!? If "fish" is dog and dog spelled backwards is you know who, it would seem to me this is a Holy matter and should not be meddled with by mere mortals.

Of course, the naming at all is a mortal thing, so why not change (for changes sake. I don't hold with the politcally correct changes)? And 'dog spelled backward' works mostly in the english language, doesn't it, not in an original language where the religion holds that the name cannot be spoken??

and that is why we spell it G-D. Oh what fools we mortals be, eh Glen.
