When I was trying to get this shot, she went into her hole. Can't fool me I swam around the other side and caught her when she came out.

Cecil...once again, great pics:-) Man, I was in my "stress packing mode" and just caught these...geez...the next 3 days at work are going to be MURDER! My plan was to check one bag, and then have a carry on and my "purse." Well, as Michael came in the bedroom and saw the "pile" on the bed...he was like..."check 2 bags, carry on the third and your "purse." After much trial and error...I conceded to his suggestion...sigh...I guess I better bring a lot of tip money for help with all the bags...or maybe take "one" pair of shoes out of the bag...I only have about 6 pairs in there now!

Cynde,

Why are you bringing 6 pairs of shoes to an island where you're gonna be barefoot 90% of the time??

LOL, Bob, they are all sandles...of different colors...a girl has to be color coordinated you know! I know I am taking too much, in my mind I was going to take my dive gear and a couple pair of shorts and t-shirts...decisions decisions:-)

Tonight's batch.

Some Yellow Goat Fish from the Salt Pier
Goat Fish

Chain Moray
Chain Moray

The next sequence has a story, while diving one morning I noticed some Conneys around a coral head. I went over and they had a small Golden Moray out in a coral head that was to small. His butt came out the back. They were beating him up pretty badly, when I got close the Conneys were distracted and the Moray hopped over to the next coral head that he could hide in.

When I first got there.

Cecil, great pics! I can't wait to get there and "observe" some of the stuff I have been reading in the fish behaviour book! I think it is the same fish, only different lighting...I looked at its markings, and they seem to be identical to me...ya gonna tell niki and I the secret?

You're kind-of right same fish, same lighting. When I swam by, he changed his colors almost instantly. So I took another picture. I didn't know Groupers could change so quickly. He went back to the light color after I passed.

You can go tomorrow, you have my permission. One requirement is to eat at the Lost Penguin and get their Eggs Benidict, to die for.

Thanks Cecil, I will take you up and get out of dodge tomorrow...looked up the grouper color change, and when they are moving from hiding place to hiding place, when they are courting, or feeling threatened...did you look like a nice big male grouper to her maybe?

Lost Penguin is on our list of places to eat...and Eggs Benedict sounds delish! YUM!

Chromatophores, and Chromatofives too. You will see many fish change color dramatically at cleaning stations,Groupers and barracuda may turn almost black, and you can then see whitish parasites easier and the cleaners see them better too. Fish also change to blend in when changing habitat, a slender filefish can instantly recolor when darting from soft coral to sea fan. There are many different reasons for color changes, including mating.

Most rapid colour changes are chromatophoric ones that alter the colour of the organism through the dispersion or concentration of biochromes. Emotion plays a role in such changes among some cephalopods, fishes, and horned lizards (Phrynosoma). When excited, certain fishes and horned lizards undergo a transient blanching that probably results from the…

I wonder if all these anchors in the shallows are from vessels jettisonning weight to stay off the reef?

I saw three anchors while diving, this one that I had the impression they were placed there for decoration, or just to get rid of it. The one off Karpata looks like a classic lost anchor. The last was the anchor for the Hilma Hooker which was in place when she sank. You can follow the chain from the anchor to the ship.
