Am planning to move there within next year, have some income but want to keep working for a while. Not yet ready to retire for good! What is required to obtain a work permit? How and where do I apply?

Well, one way is to buy an existing business, say, like a restaurant.......

This has been covered many times in BT-do a search-you'll find more than enough. Basically, you need to have a skill that a local resident cannot provide, and you need to have your potential employer request the permit for you. While it's being requested, you must be off island (can be two to six months or never). Depending upon our own unemployment rate, you may or may not be granted a permit-locals always have first rights for jobs.

Ruth, you crack me up. Is buying a restaurant like buying a boat, the two happiest days you have are the day you buy it and the day you sell it?

I'd have to say yes.....

Hey, don't knock it--the last time the pizzeria was sold, it was because there were tourists with the Bonaire lament, 'oh, how can I live here? yada yada' and the then owner asked, 'you wanna buy a restaurant' and the guy said 'yes' and bought it.
