Robert, you will fall in LOVE with Bonaire and the diving. The shore diving is easy (compared to where I live anyway!) The only thing you really need are booties to get past the coral rubble entry on most sites. Stop by and say hi to Kelly and I when you are there. Are you leaving on the 8th? That is when we are having the BBQ

Just a reminder that we have a gas grill here on the patio too, in case anyone wants to grill up some food on July 8th (and even a smoker if someone wants to invest the time in smoking some meat, e.g. chickens, turkey, ham, etc.). Linda & I will instruct Cynde and Kelly on proper use of these items, if they feel they need it :-)

Hi Cynde thier is my husband and my two daughters ages 16 and 13. We are staying at the belmar. Has anyone stayed at the belmar can you remind me if they have a oven. The reason i ask I make this great desert called smash cake that I would love to make. Maybe it would be easier to make ahead of time but worried how it will travel.
|
By Ann Phelan (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1131) on Sunday, June 8, 2003 - 8:09 pm: |
Christine, it might be really "Smash Cake" if you travel with it, but give it a go..it might be a great topic for conversation. I cannot recall about the ovens but do u want to bake in Bonaire? LOL...You must bring your kids to Lac Bay so they can see the kids their age sail.
|
By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #6923) on Sunday, June 8, 2003 - 8:26 pm: |
christine, sounds like a great cake! you will be there from the 4rth to ??? what date...if belmar does not have an oven, feel free to come on over and bake it before the bbq
|
By christine Hughes (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #174) on Sunday, June 8, 2003 - 9:21 pm: |
the cake has yellow cake mix with cream cheese and chocolate chips in it. how it get the name smash cake is you take yellow cake mix with butter and egg no water and smash it in bottom of a 13x9 pan then you creme the cream cheese and stir in chocolate chips and put that ontop of the yellow cake mix that had been smashed into pan and bake it is yummy. we are staying till the 12th. Ann I will bring the kids over to Lac Bay.

What time do you all arrive on the 4th ? I get in at 2:30 hubby thinks I am joking told him I was wearing bathing suit under my clothes so as soon as we hit the belmar throw my luggage in the room and I am hitting the water swimming the house reef.

Frozen chicken breasts are almost always available in multi-pound "bricks" (the ones offered at Cultimara are most likely thawed versions of said bricks of chicken breasts). If you want non-frozen, then Cultimara or Warehouse are the places to go.

By christine Hughes (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #206) on Sunday, June 15, 2003 - 3:18 am: |
you are welcome and it wasnt that generous. Last time we were there the people from ab were there and had a sign with our name on it when we came.Last time it was a man waiting for us and we had rented a jeep but to our dismay we realised all our luggage wouldnt fit and four people and the guy was very nice and put luggage in a pickup truck and took us to the belmar. We ended up trading the jeep for a pickup truck. Irene at the belmar is so good we didnt arrive when we were late because of dca but she stayed till we got there and showed us around. Part of the reason we love bonaire so much is because of the experience that we had staying at the belmar. One thing for sure is you can count on thier not being a problem with your truck rental or your room. Plus this time I got my airfare through them and she got it cheaper than the internet or the airline itself.

One can never have too many guitars! Qo===*

Airey, I don't know what Qo===* means, is it "cyber air guitar?" If so, I heard it loud and clear!

That is a very cool shot Wally. I assume that was taken last December, or New Year's Day. I was down there the same time as you. Unfortunately, we had to fly out the day of Jake's BBQ on the 1st of January. I was bummed flying out that day, lookng up the coast and thinking of you sucking down Amstels and eating ribs. (but deep down, through the resentfulness and jealousy, I was happy for you.) I'll be back this Saturday for almost 3 weeks, so life is good again.

I am looking forward to meeting you and all the other people as well Cynde. Where do you live in California? I was stationed at Camp Pendleton in southern California for a while. I also attended the Defense Language School in Monterey for a bit as well. I even had the experience of a small earthquake. That gave me a big wake up call!! LOL

By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #7127) on Friday, June 20, 2003 - 11:12 am: |
James, I am in Laguna Niguel, between Dana Point and Laguna Beach. I was raised in San Diego....so Camp Pendleton is just a stones throw down the coast! Oh, and I have had more than enough experiences with tremors, small earthquakes...the building i work in is 3 stories high, and when we get a small one, you can feel the building "sway" makes ya feel like you're on a boat!

Oh, and the water should be a nice and toasty 69 degrees by September We wear 7mm full suit with skin underneath, 5mm gloves, booties and hood...and it is actually very nice...worth all the neoprene!

Airey and Cheryl, good luck to your son...and boot camp (may he survive!) When my husband joined back up in the Coast Guard Reserves, we went to the Marine Boot Camp Base in San Diego to get our Military ID's (The only Coast Guard base is in San Pedro). Anyway, we were laughing at ourselves because we looked soooooo out of place with all these young kids, and they were VERY serious...I was afraid that one of the officers was going to ask us what the heck we were doing on base dressed like we were! LOL!

By Cheryl B (BonaireTalker - Post #53) on Monday, June 23, 2003 - 11:18 pm: |
Okay, I'll be the one to ask.... if everyone on the list shows up, there will be ~100 people at the party. Will Jake and Linda's house/garden HOLD 100 people? How about all those rental cars? Gotta park 'em somewhere!
|
By Linda Richter - NetTech (Moderator - Post #1419) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 9:29 am: |
100 people? Sure.
|
By Cheryl B (BonaireTalker - Post #55) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 9:44 am: |
Great, thanks Linda! I just wanted to be sure we weren't overextending our welcome - I want to be invited back!
|
By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #7207) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 10:26 am: |
OK Cheryl, you had me looking at the chart...I count approximately 56 if everyone that is listed as a single name brings one person...I believe that Ken Watson's group of 41 are coming and going at different dates...so not sure just how many of those folks will be on the island on the 8th. Quite a few people are arriving after the 8th...so I don't think it will hit 100??? Linda and Jake are the best to let this happen without them there! I guess it would have been a tight fit at Gibi's with around 60!

|
By Niki Harris (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #760) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 2:03 pm: |
Cynde, You will have such a great party! I am way jealous... NAME TAGS are a good idea, because some BT'ers are modest and don't introduce themselves to everyone, and you find out later that someone you wanted to meet was there!!
|
By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #7220) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 2:11 pm: |
Niki, I can't wait...to get there...and get in the water...and have some fun I thought the name tag thing might be a good idea...especially for those that don't have pics posted on their profiles...or if they only have their backs posted Do you have this June gloom up your way? The sun FINALLY came out yesterday afternoon for a bit...I drove to work with the top down today regardless of the lack of warmth or sun! LOL!

By Niki Harris (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #761) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 3:15 pm: |
The day we got back from Bonaire it was 85 and beautiful, but ever since it's been grey and 60. I am wearing my winter clothes, and shivering because I had turned off the house heat for the summer. Gloom is right. Forecast says heat is due tomorrow though!

By Glen Reem (Extraordinary BonaireTalker - Post #1440) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 7:08 pm: |
Jake had name tags last summer. He can at least point you to a source there or a need to bring some from here.
|
By Cynde (Supreme BonaireTalker - Post #7230) on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 - 7:47 pm: |
Hi Glen, I have already bought them and am printing them here on my computer, and I have the cheapo extras to bring with me...thanks
