I sent this on to DJ, thought I would post it here and maybe we can all share. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Here's what I do:

What I do is remove the O ring and feel it in my fingers. If I find grit or dirt I clean it off using a lint free lens paper or a cheap paper napkin. I clean out the groove with a Q tip, and wipe down the mating flat section of the main housing where the of ring seats. I lube the ring and put it in holding each corner as I go. I inspect the heck out of everything, the O ring and mating area for lint from Q tips, eyelashes, eyebrow hair, corn husks, and whatever. I slip the camera in and lock it, slip the desiccant in, and close it up. I then put it in a bucket of water if possible. The housing will leak out of the plastic handle on the left side, and between your lenses if you have on a filter or macro, but not anywhere else. You have to make sure you get any bubbles out between lenses before you start shooting. I also check when I get into the water for those same leak(s). And I repeatedly check my buoyancy, since I know I can get distracted going after a shot.

As per advice on this board I have started to simply nuke the dessicants rather than replace them, I can't see anything in the silicate to go bad.

Seb

Seb might I suggest that you don't use the Q-tips.. they leave fiber that can cause the housing to leak.. I have been using the sponge makeup remover triangles to clean the groove under the O-ring.. they leave no fiber and after I use the triangle {3 sides}I throw it away..

I was concerned about it, Freddy, and you may have a good idea. I have found thus far that the silicone seems to keep the fibers all togeher, but I would prefer a sponge tipped q tip...maybe time for a trip to the makeup department.
I've considered drilling a hole in the blue part to let the water out easier!
And glad as I am I've remembered how to post with the firewall on, the image is puny.
Hmph

As well you oughta be, DJ! Wait until you hear the pressurization "crunches" the housing makes at 30, 50, and 70 feet! It makes them coming back up too! I don't even hear them anymore. Of course, now when I do hear them they can be scarier!.

Freddie, I really noticed it last year when I first got and used the housing. I would hold on for dear life to the housing with both hands descending. I noticed it almost not at all this year, tho I do recall a time or two. I also no longer hold onto the camera with both hands going down but have it clipped to my BCD, so I no longer feel the compressions.

I think it was just a bright day, Freddie, I was using a close up lens which I was too simple to use correctly I find out later, oh well, when I learnt to take pictures it was with the old brownie and everything happened in the darkroom, no pricey lenses or cameras. Anyway, next time I will know.
That guy has been cropped a good bit too Freddie.
Still on the lookout for foamy que tips

Oh Freddie, I got some pics girl. I "correct" some of them in photoshop LE, which is fine enough for me, acvtually I am used to the old Photodeluxe but I have to upgrade, which I hate because they do not carry over any of the user interface, so stuff I could do in a trice wiht the old software will take a learning curve to get past. Arrrgh!
I also have a collection of us from the webcams while we were looking after Richterville, so maybe I will start a CC thread to upput them on too.
