We will be arriving on Bonaire on May 31. Since we will be staying for several days on Puerto Rico, fresh (or even frozen) bagels and Krispy Kremes aren't possible, but anything else I can bring, including items from PR like chiles, just post a note. I will definitely bring doggie treats for Blikje and Grendal. Anything for the kids?

For bagels and such, post them too, so anyother volunteers can bring them. I will try to get a Sunday NY Times for Michael G., but best bet for him is someone else.

Linnea,

Michael drinks Folgers coffee and even offers it occasionally to customers and friends...it was great stuff

I'll be bringing the bagels and NY Times for Michael, and of course the folger's too. not to worry.
Funny though. I bring back the Aroma Gold coffee from Bonaire and freeze it, to share with friends here. I made the last pot of coffee from my stash this morning. Friends bring it back from Aruba too for me. Savoring a "taste of Bonaire". Less than a week to go!

Hey, Lorraine, what about bagels for us? ;-)

There's nothing quite like the bagels from the NYC area... Yum.

Hey Jake!

We are in NJ...so I think we are abit closer to accommodate your NY Bagel request. How many and what kind? I will pick them up Thursday as we arrive Bonaire Friday.

Lots of them as far as quantity. Pumpernickel and Egg rank highest on our favorites list :-)

Anybody need anything from Colorado? 17 of us are arriving on the 24th. Jake and Linda, any chance we can see some of Linda's artwork?

Linda H.,

Some of Linda's originals can be seen at Chat N Browse (next to Lover's Ice Cream at the Sand Dollar "shopping center"), at Pasa Bon Pizza (just hung those up this weekend), at Casablanca Restaurant, and of course here at our house and at Linda's studio across the street.

Chat N Browse is open 9-6 daily, I think. Pasa Bon Pizza Restaurant is open Wed-Sun from 5pm-11pm. Casa Blanca from 11:30am to 11pm daily. And, our house and Linda's studio is by appointment - call 717-6773.

Details of which paintings are where are at http://www.LindaRichter.com (Linda updated it yesterday, I think).

Jake,

Thanks for Linda's website address. She's a
fantastic artist. We'll be sure and hit the
Chat N Browse. I've sent Linda an email asking
if she needs anything from the states. How about
you?

I think we already have some bagels coming down. Other than that, we are probably all set for now. Thanks for asking, and looking forward to meeting you at Gibi's next Tuesday evening (or sooner if you want to see some of Linda's other work).

Hey folks

Old asbestos mouth here. Anyone want some Death Head, Hot Sauce from Hell, Yucatan Sunshine, Bufalo, or other mouth burner sauces? I plan on checking out the mercados in San Juan, PR to see what kind of live chiles they have there also.

Wow! I had no idea Linda was an artist! I am thoroughly impressed. I am also impressed with Jake's digital art. Awesome! We'll have to check it out when we're there next month.

Jake & Linda, Is there anything else, other than BBQ sauce, you would like for us to bring? Our load has been lightened significantly since we're not bringing Grant!! Yippee! Although, I will certainly miss him. This will be the first time I've been away from him. :-(

Linda H., My husband & I are also arriving on 6/24. What route are you taking? Are you going through Dallas? San Juan? Maybe we'll get to meet you & your gang on one of the planes. You may view a pic of me & hubby in my profile...no guarantees I'll look like that though. That pic was taken 9/2/01, 1 1/2 days before our son was born! :-)

Later,
Greta

Jake/Linda, I just found a used book store near work. I got some 'juvenile fiction' to bring down. Is there any titles that are not new-new releases that you would like me to track down. They have a large selection of sci fi, horror, and mysteries. Romances too, if that is to anyones taste.

Jake, is the port Linda liked ruby or tawny? I haven't found any Aussie port, but plenty of Portugese and Calif. ports.

Linda's into Tawny, my preference are smooth Rubies :-)

We read so much it is hard to come up with titles and authors that we know we haven't got yet. Maybe a better idea is just leave us with any books you finish reading while you're on vacation. I'll read just about anything but sport trivia.

Port? I like Tawny and White. Jake prefers the Ruby.

OK Jake, one of each type of port then. What about books as asked above? I plan on bringing down a bunch of my well read sci fi, but mine aren't the space rocket kind, more sword and socerer type. I have others that are light-weight mysteries that I plan on bringing down also.

Sword & Sorcery is dandy - escapist fiction is a staple for me (along with video games) :-)

One of my current favorites is L.E. Modesitt, and I enjoy reading Kate Elliott, Harry Turtledove, George R.R. Martin, Jennifer Roberson, etc. (but I have most if not all of their books as well). So, I'll go with Linda's conclusion - leave us your book "leavings" and we'll be content :-)

Jake & Linda,

Do you read Robert Ludlum?

Have you determined if there's anything else we can bring from Texas?

Greta

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Jake Richter (Moderator - Post #4303) on Friday, May 23, 2003 - 5:16 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

We do, but other than the Paris Option (new), I think we pretty much have all his other books.

As far as things from Texas, if you can somehow manage to bring down some really good tortilla chips without them breaking en route, that would be great. Otherwise Rudi's BBQ sauce would be just dandy all by itself :-)

See you all on Bonaire, or look for us in front of the street cam on June 1st about 10-11 am.

Ayo, adios, adeiu, later gators.

Paris Option & Tortilla Chips! Yes, we'll bring them. Ludlam is coming out with a new book called the Altman Code at the beginning of June. If it's out before we leave, I'll pick it up too. Would you like some salsa to go with the tortilla chips?

BTW, what are "really good tortilla chips" to you? Tostito's? On the Border? Mission? Corn or Flour? We have all kinds and I'm not sure what you think is really good. I know of a lot of great salsas though.

Not sure if Ludlam's coming out with a new book - I believe he passed away in the last year or two (could be under his name though).

If you've got a favorite medium heat salsa, great!

For chips, Tostitos Restaurant Style White Corn are pretty decent (and well neigh impossible to get on Bonaire - we have chips here which are closer to Fritos, but triangular or round), but again, if you've got something better, we're game! (Blue Corn is always fun too!)

Thanks!

See ya soon!

I would be devastated if Ludlam passed away. I know it will happen someday though.

According to www.buy.com, Ludlam's Altman Code will be released 6/17/03. He co-authored this book with Gayle Linds. I'll try to get a copy for you.

Thanks Greta!

However, I hate to devastate you, especially on Memorial Day, but Robert Ludlum passed away two years ago. Here's a link: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/writers/writer.asp?cid=91353

He apparently had a number of books or nearly finished at the time of his death, which is why books with his name as author are still coming out. Quite the prolific writer. May he rest in peace.

Wow! I'm very sorry to hear about his passing, especially so late. I was trying to think of why I didn't know about it two years ago and then I remembered....I was pregnant. I had a lot of other things on my mind. Boy, do I feel out of the loop! Thanks for informing me. Who knows how long I would have been waiting for his new releases!

If anyone coming down in the next week is reading this, our kids need polyfill stuffing for pillows. Linda has shown me a sample bag from JoAnn Fabrics with 100% pure polyester fiber, 8oz bag. Linda says they could use a couple more of them (brand doesn't matter) for a pillow making project.

Thanks!

June 4th would be dandy! Thanks! 2 or 3 bags of it please. It compresses really well and is very light :-)

See you soon!

Jake,
I will make it an even 4 bags. I have a bike parking sign for (your) Yana but I can't seem to find any thing with the name of Bas. Would he like a kite?
Yana
ps I'm getting ready to go over the double digits posting mark!

Bas is heavily into Legos at this point - not into the outdoors in any way, alas. :-)

Thanks!
