What goes on when it rains on Bonaire? Does that call for a party?

Jim, it calls for getting of the streets fast, because usually when it rains here, it pours. Mostly short hard burst of rain, after which the sun comes back again... and you can here the plants and tress cheering :-)

When it rains on Bonaire I get glum and dour - I need continual sunshine and the rain interferes with that. For my kids, it means rapidly changing into swim suits so they can go outside and get wet via the rain. And when it rains, the "circle" (what we have there as an excuse not to have a stop light) north of Harbour Village becomes very slippery, so cars skid. Oh, and if our dogs are outside, they start to smell after the rain.

Jake

Ah, the smell of rain... So much better when you don't have dogs! ;-)

If Jake didn't have dogs, the street cam wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

It poured with rain on Good Friday morning (April 18). We were leaving the next day, so decided to take another drive around the southern part of the island. It started to rain just as we passed Pink Beach. We came across two young flamingoes (had not yet turned pink) next to the side of the road. I had to wait to take pictures because I didn't want to stick the camera lens out the window! After the rain, we noticed biting bugs that had not bothered us all week.

You're all clueless.......rain here means staying in bed, ahem... a private party so to speak. I always expect 'no shows' at work if it's raining.

Well, it rained again this morning and I'm still at work... Just a matter of sense of duty, I guess.. :-P

Shoot, it didn't rain in playa this morning.

And Dave, you know I have very stressful days-I've got to be around to do product testing & maintain quality control. I still haven't decided though about a 'new' drink we've found-"Salitos" (guess it's like Tequiza, which I've never had). Beer with tequila & lime (5.9% alc.). For the truly lazy drinker who can't manage to line up tequila shots and beer chasers...the bottom of the bottle even has a built in bottle opener, so no energy wasted looking for one. I think I need to sample more.

Someone's gotta do it.

The BOTTOM has a built in opener?? Are you sure you haven't had too many "samples" already? [grin]

hmm...ruth, so maybe amstel's are going to get some serious competition?..."salitos"...let us know how it tastes...but i can't imagine spoiling the quality taste of a tequila shot with a beer chaser by mixing it all together...but they obviously have done their market research to find their audience...the lazy shooter? ruth, be strong whilst doing the testing...we're behind ya, and we know you can do it gal

Thank you all for the moral support. Difficult as it is, I shall dutifully try again tonight. They taste so good-even non-beer drinkers like them. Kind of a shandy taste. I might just have to sell them at KFC too-that way I'd be closer to them during the day, in case more questions arise.

Oh yeah, the opener part-so clever-there's an indent in the bottom of each bottle the shape of the cap-so with one beer, you open the next by putting it on top & twisting it. Which of course means you need 2 beers to start....

ruth, what will they think of next...so you have to buy two, so you can get the first one open...is this new concoction available at mangos?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Ruth van Tilburg (BonaireTalker - Post #44) on Sunday, May 18, 2003 - 11:15 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Yes. But you can start with one at Mango's, and I'll use mine to open yours (believe me, if I'm at Mango's, there's one in my hand). Regular bottle openers do work-but this is just way more amusing and a great conversation starter.

Is this going to to turn into some user/opener support group? ;)

john, it is a co-dependant bottle opening group...one has to have at least one that will assist in opening the other...ruth, kelly and i will certainly look you up when we are there in july, and providing you have one in your hand...you can co-dependantly assist with the opening of our first "salitos." guess i could see if we have it around here, but heck...that would take ALL the fun out of it!

On that note, I just re-read Cynde's earlier remark that there's nothing like the smell of wet dog... To which I should have responded that I can think of at least one other wet animal with a peculier smell... Good thing I didn't, it might get me banned ;-)
