First timers.........cash (US type), credit cards, or travelers checks? Usually use travelers checks but is it going to be a hassle to use on bon? Have room safe where we're staying... lodging, most diving, and car are prepaid.

Thanks
joe

We bring some US cash and use the ATM at Cultimara once or twice (in 2 weeks) to get some more cash in NAfls. Most of our purchases are on credit cards, but some of the warehouse type grocery stores don't take credit cards.

We get guilders or dollars at the Maduro ATMs, a drive thru next to lovers or in town

Joe, this is what we do, and we go often. We bring a couple hundred in US cash. We bring a credit card for the vehicle. When we get to Bonaire we withdraw guilder from the ATM. This is the best way to do it. You don't pay an exchange rate as if you went into the bank to exchange US cash to guilder! Good Luck!

Joe,

I usually take several hundred in US $50 bills. They are large enough so you don't have to carry that many and yet they are not hard to break. I use them at restaurants mostly. Our meals are usually in the $25-30 range ($10-15pp) and I get the change in Guilders for use at other places. I carry one or 2 $50 at a time plus a cc and leave the rest back in the room safe. Guilders from the bank ATM are always an option. TC's are ok but more of a hassle than they are worth, at least in Bonaire. By the way, a rough estimate of Guilders/dollars that I use is 2 to 1 or $1 USD=2 Guilders. This is not exact but makes the math easy and is close enough for me. The actual rate is pretty close to $0.566USD= 1Guilder.
