We had a great month in Bonaire last November and intend returning at the end of this year. My husband dived with WannaDive and enjoyed it very much. We thought that we would like to go on to the Galapgos Islands as it's a long drag from England to that part of the world. Has anyone any advice to give. I've tried finding self catering accommodation as we're not to keen on hotels but nothing comes up on the net. Any info. would be appreciate. Thanks Pat

I think the only way to dive the galapogos is via liveaboard.

Here are some links for you:

Pat..I believe Jake and Linda said there are daily flights from Bonaire to Equidor, and you eitehr boat or fly out of the town of Quito? Not sure how long this takes..."by air or sea.....We have looked into staying on one of the islands...there is only one with a Hotel...otherwise its all live-aboards...I think the island with the hotel is Santa Cruz and the hotel is Finch Bay. The tax per person is 100 dollars....a bit more than Bonaire! But I would love to go.....one of my must go destinations....I would also love to go to Easter Island....but I don't think there is anything to do other than stare at statues....and Steve needs alittle more excitment.....but it's up there on my list!

Hi, Pat, you might want to check out www.aquaticencounters.com. They have trips there and would probably be a good resource.

Hi Pat.

My wife and I dove the Galapagos archipelago in '97. There are several things you may wish to to know during the planning phase of your trip if you do indeed intend to go. Please feel free to email me at brians@exhibiteffectseast.com. I'll be happy to share some of our experiences with you, both good and otherwise.

The Clownfish.

While down there be sure to do some land based excursions. The blue-footed boobies and frigate birds are always nesting, I had as much fun bird-watching as I did diving.

Thanks to everyone who replied. If any one else wants to know it is easy to get to Quito from Bonaire. We flew to Bonaire from Amsterdam with KLM and only then found out that the plane carries on to Quito. This is what gave us the idea of combining both countries as well as breaking the journey up. (The flight to Bonaire is over 9 hours not including getting to Ams. from Heathrow).
I don't dive, only snorkel, and I am a terrible sailor so that is why I would prefer to be land based and my husband can go on some short livaboards without me. I will definitely be doing some land tours. My stay on Bonaire was made even better by the iguanas and lizards. I had the lizards eating out of my hands, and running up my legs, in the Park. I hope I don't upset too many people if I say that, as a non diver, they were the highlight of my trip!
Thank you Clownfish for your offer.I have made a note of your address. Pat
