I'll be coming to Bonaire for my first visit Feb. 10-15 with diving-hubby who has been there many times.

I would like to contact a teacher or librarian from an elementary school to see if they'd like a donation of children's books that I can bring when I come down. That way I can get a feel for the type of books that are needed. I own a bookstore and have access to inexpensive books and have room in the suitcase to deliver.

I have given books to most of the islands we have visited, and they have been well received. It's a way to share my love of reading with young readers and give something to an island that makes hubby happy ;-)

Last fall there was a thread about book donations, I believe for the orphanage. Maybe a search through the archives will help.

I've found the archives with the info. needed to provide books for the library or orphanage (maybe I'll bring books for both if hubby can give up a suitcase ;-) Looks like they do need English books for readers over the age of 12 which I can easily supply along with books with pictures in English for younger readers. Unfortunately, I don't have any access to books in Dutch, but plan to take a couple of Spanish/English dictionaries to donate.

If I only had enough room - I'd could easy find a donation of used encyclopedias locally it looks like they need. I'll have to call the airlines to see what they charge for an extra bag...
