Let me dig up some photos for you. There are 4 anchors that I have seen at Karpata and a couple of chains.

Man, I'm glad to see pics of them! My husband and I have been to Bonaire 4 times now (are planning for # 5 in May) and have dove at Karpata 3 times and still have not found the anchors! Any advice on how to best locate them would be great!

Thanks!

Thanks for the pictures- I have digital photos from earlier this month, but they are still in Bonaire! By documentation, I am looking for legends, stories or more concrete information as to vessel or reason of abandonment. (Who, what, when, where, why) I owe a paper to my director from my project this summer and I thought he'd appreciate the anchor info.
As for where the 3 are that I am working on:
The largest (c. 6')and easiest to find sits crown up pointing 345deg at 38' with one palm exposed. About 40-50' away at 35' is a second, smaller one with crown pointing 100deg. The third you can find by following the chain (starts around 22') down to about 40'where it is mostly hidden. I wasn't using my normal compass, so I hope the degree headings are correct.
And the 4th one?

Anchor locating at Karpata is easy if you simply head straight out from the shore entry (a flat concrete block). After you kick out to where the bottom is about 15', just begin a slow descent on an angle toward the dropoff. You should spot at least one of the anchors if you keep looking left and right as you glide down from 20' to 40'.

If you jump in at La Dania's Leap and drift north to Karpata, the biggest anchor will be standing out from a point just below the crest of the dropoff as you look up towards the shore... telling you that you have reached the turn-in point. If you are cruising below 40' and looking generally up-slope you should spot it sillhouetted, with nothing but clear water all the way to the surface behind it. You'll probably see at least the second one along the way if you keep your depth at 30'.

On the other hand, it is so easy to miss the anchors because of everything else to see - like turtles. In my limited experience, Karpata is the best shore-dive site for turtle-spotting.
