I'm sure this seems like an odd request, but I hope you will humour me! I find a microwave so useful that I don't like to be without one if I don't have to be! The house we are renting doesn't have one, so I thought I would ask the question. Is there anywhere for us to rent a microwave during our stay? (Dec 19th through Jan 7th)
Many thanks! We can hardly wait to arrive!
Jill

Jill,
Have you thought of buying a small, low-power, inexpensive unit. Seem to recall seeing them for around $40 US in many stores in my area. Bring it with you and leave it for the next people. Might not be that different in cost from renting it locally, even if you could rent, and then it will be there for the next time you go.

I think you also need a transformer to use a microwave here (we use one just to be safe).

I'd love you to bring down a Szechuan/Hunan restaurant from one of Toronto's Chinatowns, but that's kind of a tall order :-) (Or the Sunday Brunch buffet from Movenpick!)

Seriously, Brador would be nice for Linda but not necessary. Looking forward to meeting you!

A restaurant! Never packed one of those before!!
The best I can think of is a bottle of The President's Choice "Memories of Szechuan" peanut sauce, which Rik loves to pour over his stir fried veggies, amongst other things! Movenpick's Sunday Brunch...now there's a thought; haven't been to one in a long time....
Hope to meet you soon!
Jill
Oh, you have little ones, yes? Anything for them?

The peanut sauce sounds pretty good!

We do have little ones, but I think they are all set, especially with Sinterklaas last week and Christmas coming up...

But, since you'll be on-island on Jan 1, please consider yourself and Rik invited to our annual New Year's Day Potluck BBQ - starts at 3pm!

Jake,

We really need to promote an 'Asian' restaurant, preparing 'genuine' across-Asia food. Still bet it would do well with tourists and locals.

I'd certainly be a regular (at least once or twice a week :-) )

If there came a 'genuine' Asian restaurant (but especially Szechuan) on Bonaire you can count on me... :)

Kitty,

Since you are moving to Bonaire, can we count on you for this???

Well, when we were on Bonaire we saw a fully equiped restaurant 4 sale...
"Restaurant 'It rains Chickens'"

Kitty, how's your cooking? :)

As an alternative, maybe you and Marc can start a small cooking club (with Linda and I as members) - each month we could meet to cook a particular cuisine, and then eat it of course. We'd love to do that but don't have the time to organize it (and I have most of the ingredients for Szechuan cooking here :-) ).

Okay, let's get one thing straight here... before this starts leading a life of it's own... I am NOT a kitchen prince! :) I love eating the stuff, but when it comes to preparing it, I leave that to more capable people.
So as far as a cooking club goes, I'd be very happy to coach the team and to slice the occasional onion and to arrange for nice background music and light the candles, but don't count on me to put on an apron ;-))

Well, every good cook *started* with slicing an onion :)

I do like Jake's idea, though. Especially if he's got the ingredients for Szechuan cooking :-P~~~

So, Marc will be the one getting all the groceries and making sure the rest of us are cooking in a comfy manner (nice music and all). Marc'll set the table and occasionally we'll ask him to slice an onion...

Bon appetit! :)

So, even though he's not going to cook he'll be very useful after all..... 1
