This will be SO cool again! Glad you're bringing new buttons, Chet -- I lost the 2002 one!!

Alan and I will be at Gibi's Terrace on Tuesday, February 4th at 7:30 pm. Can't wait for that great food, and Gibi's smile again. Looking forward to meeting some old friends and new ones then...

Think we can talk the Richter's into a BBQ again??
What about it Jake and Linda?

Hi, Debbie:
Can certainly do chocolate mousse again --- this time I won't break Esther's blender bowl!

I took one look at thousand year old egg, and decided it's definitely not for me. I will eat ALMOST anything, but couldn't handle that...grin!

Scott & Sharon,
Welcome to the list. Also, read in other topic that your moving to Bonaire, I'm really jealous, Jean & I both grew-up in Minnesota (Shoreview & Centerville), but only moved as far south as northern Illinois! Of course that was 30 some years ago. Hope to meet you in Bonaire, we have quite a bit of overlap.
General question for Jake, Michael, Bas, or any other Bonaire resident: Can we still expect Gibi's to be open on Tuesday evenings?
Chet

Thanks for doing this list Chet -- Mark and I are looking forward to our return to Bonaire, this time as divers! Our two previous trips have been in April so we are unfamiliar with carnival in Bonaire. Can you tell us a little bit about it?
Susan

Chet - Gibi's closed night is presently Wednesdays, so assuming he doesn't change that, Tuesdays should still be a go.

1)
Thanks Jake; also, are you planning on being 'off-Island' for the dive show again during the Feb/March time-frame?
2)
Susan, We've never been on-Island during carnival before either. If you go to infobonaire.com and check-out the 'Calendar' link, you'll find a listing of events.

Chet - not sure what's up with me in the Feb/March time frame yet in terms of travel & my consulting efforts.

Linda will be off-island for a week during mid-February though (dates not set yet).

Hi everybody, If everything works out fine (my back) and my husbands operation (Oct. 16th). And hopefully we have survived xmas. We work around the clock the week before. We have plans to come to Bonaire Somewhere January till March/end of March. I love to come to JIBI. So put me on the list. While Bas is recovering he will sort out some slides he made on Bonaire 30 years ago. A friend of ours will put 100 of them om a disk, so it will be very easy to take them to Bonaire. Maybe we can do something with it all together.

Hi Sue & Mark...Adam & I wil be there the same time...fellow Vermonters represented...Carnival is a blast..more fun than the parade in Brattleboro for sure ! you can still go dive in the morning and then everything shuts down in the afternoon so people can go to the parade in afternoon...it's usually Sunday right ?the parade keeps getting smaller each year because of the economy and funding but still amazing what a small island can do..looking forward to diving with you if you want some company...frost tonight brrrrrr...dream of Bonaire

We're going to need some witnesses......

Hillary,
What time? Where? And, is there space for all the Feb/Mar BT'ers who are there on the 6th? See our web-page for the current (at least semi-current) list of 'possible' witnesses.
http://home2.owc.net/~chetwood/

Also, I see your a 'snow sport' person; bring equipment and try to convince Michael Gaynor to take you to the local 'ski slopes'!:} :] :)

Chet you have done a wonderful job on your web site and the calender is just great for everyone to keep track of all who is there and all the events going on in Feb/Mar. Too bad we will miss meeting you. It is our first trip and from the sounds of it...it won't be the last.
Hope we can meet a few of the board members when we are there. Looking forward to the Gibi's evenings. Anyone else there on Tuesday, January 28th or Feb4th.
Hope to meet then.

Alan and I will be there on Feb 4, with bells on!!! Our first BT dinner of 2003, and we can't wait.

Michael, great!!! Large size T-shirt is my preference --- I like to be loose... (you knew that anyway, didn't you?) BTW, email me directly if there's anything I can bring you from New York (Rochester at least), other than the obligatory NY Times. Do you prefer the Sunday, or just the daily (or both)? Anyone else got any special requests -- we're arriving Jan 29.

Hillary, together with a whole bunch of other people, I bet, I'd love to witness your marriage.

Chet, what a great job, again, with the list.

Looks as if there's only a couple of us at the beginning of Feb, but looks like we've already got a group for Feb. 4th.

Diver Debbi and Adam -- will you be there that night? Very much looking forward to seeing you again. Still remember my very first night dive, holding your hand, Debbi!!

The official witness has to be a Bonairean resident but it sure would be nice to be at a wedding... Josie, I will e mail you directly.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By hillary whyte on Monday, December 9, 2002 - 10:14 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

Melissa is handling the details for the wedding. I've learned that we must be temporary residents for 4 days to have a legal Bonaire bond.
Apparently there is a female resident on the island that handles all the details (i.e.: Minister, Church, videographer/photographer, witnesses,etc...even the wedding cake).
Melissa is PADI certified, but did not want to marry under water (the gown would get soaked).
Interesting bit here: we have to pay $200 for an interpreter to translate the Minister's Dutch to English. I was sorta hoping a local magistrate could do the honors. Do you have any knowledge of the marriage by judge/magistrate in Bonaire, Michael? Any information would be a great help
I will get more details when Melissa receives details via mail.
Okay Josie, if you're available on March 6th (don't know where or when, yet) you're in! And Michael as well (being a local, that's 1 legal witness).
Thank-you...Ill be back soon with details!

I'll be there, Hillary and Melissa!! I'll bring my hat. I'm English, it's obligatory to wear a hat at a wedding! As well as being, American, that is (dual passport-holder)

Josie, Michael, et al:
I've been notified that to be married in the Village Courthouse only 2 witnesses are required.
Melissa & I were hoping to wed on a beach, which, oddly enough, requires 6 witnesses.
So, this leads me to asking this question:
Would any locals care to share some champagne on the shoreline before their night diving session?

Hillary, congrat's on your wedding. Are you having with Marvel Tromp?? She's arranging our wedding. We arrange the rest of the big day ourselves.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Chet Wood on Sunday, December 15, 2002 - 9:38 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Do all 6 witnesses need to be Bonairean residents? Or, can some just wish they were Bonaire residents?

Hillary,

If you don't find other local witnesses, let me know, and perhaps Linda and I can serve in that capacity (we'd need to arrange to have the kids babysat - you definitely don't want them there (or at least we don't ;-) )

Jake

Hi all! Scott and I will be on Bonaire from Jan 25 to Feb 1, so if anyone else is there, stop by and say hello. We'll be staying at Divi; Scott will be diving daily, and I'll be snorkeling with the fishes! Can't wait to see my island again!!!!!!!!! :-)

Jake, Isn't it the task of the best man to keep a guest list? Our masters of ceremony here in Holland chack the guestlist here, so we don't know who will join the "after-party". I think I'll be a bit busy doing other things, like arranging a certain wedding... :)

You think so? :-)

I figured if you did the list of who's going to be on Bonaire during May/June (as you did last year, I think, but maybe a bit earlier) then I could narrow that down to a post-wedding party list for you... ;-)

Jake
