A friend of mine is making her 1st trip on Bonaire in May. She was asking me if she buys a phone card in the US if it will work in Bonaire. She has a need to call home...otherwise I'd say forget the telephone for a week! I've always just bought cards from Michael at Chat and Browse... I know she would just like to have a phone card it hand...just was not sure if it would work if bought in the US.

One bought in Bonaire will always work, while one bought in the US is a maybe.

If she's taking a computer with her have her install SKYPE. Calls to US from Bonaire with SKYPE are billed at 2 cents per minute

I second the SKYPE recommendation. We use it all the time on Bonaire to call the US. Buy a small headset & just plug it in. EZ PZ and economical.

If you want to just have a phone with you (as I do when I'm in Bonaire alone and driving all over the place), for the peace of mind and for calls home or to restaurants to check hours, etc., absolutely get a phone and card from Michael. You could always use SKYPE for calling home, I just never take my laptop.

I'm always afraid of getting a flat on the road to Rincon! I seriously fret about it... and I do NOT like to worry on vacation!

one $6 card from michael should last all week. i think calls to the states are only about $.14/minute now. and as someone else said, skype is $.02/minute
