Does anyone know if the import tax on autos (from US) has been eliminated? If not, can you tell us what kind of costs to expect( other than the shipping charge by Rocargo) for car or truck for non- residents? Thanks!

Bonaire Reporter has good article on the new taxes. From my understanding, import duties have been eliminated, as well as the 5% OB tax. These have been replaced by an ABB tax which is, in general, 8% except for passenger cars (25%), fuel efficient cars (0%) and single cab truck (8% - double cab truck is considered passenger car so 25%).

Does anyone know the definition of a "fuel efficient car" which is subjected to the 0% rate?
I can guess as well as the next person but would really like to see this term defined.

I asked this exact question of the tax expert talking to business owners. His reply was vehicles with an CO2 emission rating of 110 ppm or less. Whose rating they'd use, I don't know. More direct questions need to be asked of the Douane (Customs) office here.
