Hi,
One more question, we will be staying the Divi Flamingo Resort and the electricity is 120 volts at 50 cycles. Does anyone know if I will need an adapter for my hair dryer?
Thanks,
Ida

This is my second time trying to post this so if it is a double post? I'm SORRY!

I believe most of the resorts have standard US 3 prong plugs. Note that the voltage is higher than the US (127v vs. 110v) and the cycles are slower (50hz vs. 60hz.) This means your hairdryer (any motor) will run slower and hotter. Some of the resorts have lowered the voltage to help reduce problems, but I would be very careful that your hairdryers motor doesn't overheat. If you have a low setting perhaps that would help.

I’ve not stayed at the Divi, perhaps someone who has can give you additional info.

I can convey one humorous story to you. I stayed at Buddy Dive the last time I was there and in the apartments they have clock radios with alarms. My wife and I never used it as we both are fairly trained at getting up early. On the last night we set the alarm clock at we needed to get up extra early to catch our flight home. Since the clock radio was a US model that ran on 60hz and Bonaire’s electricity is 50hz the clock lost 10 minutes an hour. We fortunately still had enough time to get to the airport as we had set it extra early.

Happy travels!

Ida,

I have stayed at the Divi 6 times and my hair dryer hasn't failed me yet. :)

Hair dryer? What is that???? When on Bonaire, let those wonderful tradewinds do all the blowing! (LOL)

Right on Liz, that's the only kind of hair dryer to have.

That’s good! I suppose you don’t run a hair dryer long enough to have much problem, plus its purpose is to heat up! I’ve heard of several people frying out battery chargers on this current. I suppose it’s due to the length of run time.

Those trade winds are nice too.

What's a hairdryer?? i made the mistake of packing a hairdryer AND a curling iron!!! what a joke!!! there's no need for either on Bonaire!!! the beautiful tradewinds are blowing constantly and do such a great job, why waste precious time with a hairdryer when you could be outside enjoying BONAIRE!!!!!! :-)

We also had a clock radio in our unit. took me a few days to realize that the time on the clock was not the ACTUAL time!! But....unless you're getting to the airport, who CARES what time it is??!! We're here to relax, right??

You haven't seen my hair! I have too atleast do the bangs...LOL ;-)
Divi e-mailed me back and said not to bring a blow dryer, said they had one in the rooms? I haven't seen that anywhere but I printed it out so when I get there I'll hopefully get one.

Ida:

My wife brings hair drier. It runs for a bit (maybe 30 seconds) and quits. It cools off in a minute or two and she gets another 30 seconds worth. I think that each hair drier will react differently to the voltage/cycle difference.

For what ever it is worth, my Sony video cam has never had a problem re-charging.

Candy, couldn't have said it better myself! I just love being free of hairdryers.

I have long hair, but it dries fast on Bonaire and it's always in MUCH better condition there, bouncy, shiny and manageable!!!!..:)

Sarah,
You have that lovely straight hair, I wish I had.
I can go without blow drying but my husband looks at me funny. You would have to see it too believe it. LOL my documents

Hi Ida, well, my hair is naturally curly, BUT, not wild (if you know what I mean).. sometimes it's a little out of control, but I just stick it up in a pony..:)

Ida, the water in Bonaire is soooo wonderful to your hair (the tap water) you just might be surprised how great your hair will look and behave while you are there. I have never brought a hair dryer, either...wash and walk...outside, that is! My hair is sooo soft and fluffy and shiny while I am on the island. Carole

Ida, I have stayed at the Divi three years in a row and have never seen a blow dryer provided in any room we stayed. My wife brings hers and never had a problem using it. We just got back from our last trip 7/17/02. Perhaps it depends on the blow-dryer but, hers worked fine everytime. Good luck and enjoy your trip.....Steve
