I have found the solution. I know how we can all have Brights. That's right it's been right under everyone's nose all along...

Here's the answer... Are you ready for it?

If everyone brings back 12 Brights, keep two for yourself, and mail 2 to 5 friends. If everyone does this on every trip to Bonaire, we would all have Brights all year long. Kind of a "Chain Beer" type of solution. As long as we don't break the chain...

What? It could work... I'm willing to try... We can start by someone sending me 2 Brights...

Well someone has to go first. :-)

Geoff,

I actually have two Brights in the fridge right now.....

But to get them, you'd have to get past Leslie.
And she's a pretty good shot! I know....

I still have a couple in my fridge as well...

I just didn't want to drink them until I knew I could replace them.

Bright is one of the reasons I don't have anywhere else to call home. I can go to any local bar or shop and buy as many as I want, then sit and watch the sun go down (or come up again if I turn the chair round)
Why live in Chicago??

John,

When I was leaving Bonaire the last time... actually last month... I realized the only reason I was going back to Chicago was because that's where my job was. I was greatly depressed. Greatly.

I live here only because I work here. Sounds pathetic when I say it that way. But at least I have Brights in the fridge... :-)

Geoff,

Brights in the frige and oh so close... River & Rand - Des Plaines. I work here also so I can pay for my next trip. Looking at Feb/March I hope, trying to get the other half on board.

Smack,

If I have to explain the next step, you need to send 'em back. :-)

But just in case...

Step 1. Chill to 40 degrees.
Step 2. Cut lime wedge.
Step 3. Open bottle.
Step 4. Insert lime wedge.
Step 5. Set back and enjoy.
Step 6. This is a good one... Repeat steps 1 thru 5.

Enjoy my friend, enjoy...

Geoff,
I think I need more OJT...the cap won't twist. And Tom took away all the sharp utensils. Ever tried to slice a lime with one of those plastic knives? Lime juice in the eye hurts!

Smack,

Maybe it's a GOOD thing Tom took all the sharp utensils!!

And btw: the last time Geoff was at my house, he helped polish off the last of my Brights.... then he sends some to you in the mail?

How did I become second fiddle?

If it weren't for me, Geoff would never have gone to Bonaire in the first place.

Okay, so tell me the difference between a Bright and a regular Amstel...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By John Shire (New BonaireTalk Poster - Post #4) on Sunday, November 2, 2008 - 10:48 am:     Edit PostPrint Post

Am I the only one who thinks Amstel Bright's a little overrated?

Sure, it's tasty, especially when icy cold. And it's just the ticket for chasing that yucchy dry-mouth sensation after a dive. But there are a half-dozen beers made in my small Midwestern city that are as good or better. I just don't see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe my problem is one of unrealistic expectations. After reading all the reverential references to Bright on BT, I was anticipating a near out-of-body experience when I took my first sip. My immediate thought, instead, was, "There's been some sort of mistake -- this tastes just like Corona." Which is ok, I guess -- just not what I expected. I mentally adjusted, and soon found myself ordering another.

In my book, at least, it's being on Bonaire that makes drinking a Bright a special experience. I suspect it wouldn't taste as good here in Indiana, and looking at that cute little bottle would only worsen my PBD.

John,

It's my belief that Brights are just like every other aspect of Bonaire. It's all better on Bonaire. I live in Chicago, there is great food, ice cream and beer here in this town. Some of the best in the world. But I'd still rather have a burger and a Bright in Bonaire as eat at Morton's or Gibson's any day.

When I bring a Bright home with me, it's bringing home a piece of the island with me. Everything is better on Bonaire. Brights aren't just about the taste... It's more of an event, a ritual, a right of passage.

Brother Dave,

The two Bright's in your fridge... I passed those to Leslie at O' Hare after we landed... Plus after last count, I still have sever in my fridge... Come on over...

I don't like Corona, it has that aftertaste...but a Bright is just cold and smooth, and it's from an island that just makes it ALL GOOD!!!:-)

To me, that's the difference!!! And the fact that we can't get them here...well, you always want what you can't have!! So, I'll have a Bright, PLEASE??!!:-)

I think I may want in on this "Chain Beer" thing, sounds good. But I can't get mine til May...go ahead and start sending them now though!!!
I'll let you know if they taste any different when I'm not on island...

Dave: Loved the link - thanks! Dunno how I missed that one, as I typically make a point of reading your informative & entertaining reports.

DiveWarm: Don't pass up a Bright on my say-so. Try at least one & contribute your 2 cents worth to the scientific research described in Dave's thread. I actually agree with PegiSue that Bright has a cleaner finish than Corona. (That being said, it's kind of a stretch to use the term "cold" to describe the taste of Bright or any other beer. If it sits for very long in your little grey truck, it ain't gonna taste cold.)

Geoff: We can certainly agree that everything's better on Bonaire. But we differ in what works for us after we get home. Wouldn't life be dull if we all thought alike...?

John, in my neck of the woods a "beer purse" best have camo on the outside and resemble an ammo case. YMMV.

Why does this cap not twist? I'm breakin out the drill!

Reading this thread got me thinking...why the small bottles of beer? One would think that since everything has to be shipped onto the island; larger bottles would be more efficient. Not to mention less waste/recycling.

Beer is mostly water so the cost of the container is more than the cost of what is in it. So if it's not economics or environmental, what is the case for the small bottles? No pun intended ;-)

My personal thoughts on this, and they are my own thoughts, which means it doesn't mean too much... BUT, I find it very handy to have smaller beers. They don't get warm before you are done. Small beer and a huggie, it's good!! Yep, you have the same temp at the end as you do at the beginning. IT'S ALL GOOD!!!!

The size of the bottle is kept small so it's affordable for everyone. Amstel set the size long ago (when it was made in Curacao), and the other brands followed to stay competitive. I've also seen them decrease the size of the bottles in order to keep the prices low.

Getting out here after that stinkin' blizzard in South Dakota was certainly a chapter for the memory book... but we are HERE and lovin' it.
