we just got back from being on bonaire for 10 days and went to a local fisherman's house and he sold us a hammerjack?? i have never heard of this fish. i grilled it with garlic, lemon, and butter and it was delicious.what is hammerjack? of course the fisherman could not speak english so maybe i misunderstood.

i asked him if he meant amberjack and he said no,but maybe he was making a joke because he and his partner the one cleaning all the fish were hammered if you know what i mean. they were enjoying the rum. he gave me a shot and oh my gosh it burned all of the way down and they just laughed at me and he said hammerjack (i think) as he handed me my bag of filets.the fish looked exactly like the picture. thanks freddie for the photo. it weighed just over one kilo and he said $4.00, i gave him $4.00 and i got change(in guilders) i thought i got a good deal did i?

seems to me that whatever you paid you got a good price at $4.00 if it isn't amber jack one of the locals can tell us what it is .. Michael are you out there???

Theresa. I think you answered your own question. THEY were the ones that were hammered. Looks like amberjack to me. Commonly referred to as "jack".

greg, well i am not real good at street names on bonaire and the owner of last bite bakery had us follow her there so this is the best i can do as for as directions go..go past the last bite bakery and you will see a sign that saids wannadive turn right go i think 2 streets turn left and his house is like the 3rd house on the right. he has a sign out near his gate that lists the fish he has for the day. we got a hammerjack one day a wahoo one day and a red snapper one day.very good prices and a nice guy to deal with.he also had shark and tuna, but those are not my favorite fish.

Thanks Theresa, I know where the wanna dive hut is as a friend stayed there on our last trip. I will drive around those few streets and look for a sign of fresh fish. Thanks a bunch! I can always go to Last bite and ask directions as well.
