I'm sorry, in my first post, I misspelled the word. My question is, does anyone know about the amount of LIQUER (ie Kahlua, Baileys)you can take back? In Jamaica two years ago, you could take one bottle of liquor but unlimited liquer. I cannot find anything about this on the customs webpage.
Thanks for your help. It rained ALL DAY today, but did get to do a nice dive just north of Eden Beach, which I think is the south end of Bari's reef.
Louise

If the duty free is in a special sealed duty free bag you can take it on the plane.

Hi Louise,
First of all, welcome to BT.
I cannot answer your limit question, but we just returned june 14 from Bonaire. After you make your purchase, the clerk will place it in a sealed plastic bag with your boarding pass info on it. Then when you go thru the gate to board, you will be given the package.
Upon arrival back in the states, after you claim your bags and go thru customs, you must pack the liquor in your checked bags before rechecking them.
I hope this helps and enjoy the paradise of Bonaire.

Will you be going thru San Juan? If so you can purchase all you can carry there because you have already cleared US customs. However, this only applies to liquor bottled in PR.

Now, if you are willing to take a little chance, you can still bring back a couple extra bottles no matter where you are coming from. The slim chance is that, if you are selected, you might have to pay a few dollars duty on any extra bottles you bring back. However, in reality, the duty is not worth their efforts to collect so, as long as you declare it, they will not bother you for an extra bottle or two of rum.

When we used to go to Roatan, we always brought back 4-5 bottles each and were never stopped or charged any duty. Well almost never. On one return thru Miami, the "older" customs man asked if we had anything to declare, I said yes, we had 8-10 bottles of rum (wife and I combined). I thought he looked at me a bit funny, took my custom form, said "I'll keep this, go straight ahead." We walked straight ahead, as opposed to a 45 degree left to the exit, and stood in the line that was there. I could see they were searching luggage, interviewing travelers in small rooms, and etc. I told my wife, don't worry, we will just have to pay a bit of duty. Finally, a young fellow looked up and saw us standing back in the line and said; "what are you waiting for?" I replied we had a couple extra bottles of rum. He then came out from behind the counter and said, "who sent you here". I pointed out the gentleman who had said "go straight ahead". The young fellow then went over and spoke with him and returned and made this announcement, "get out of here, this isn't the line for extra rum, this is the line for Cocaine!"

When the old fellow had said straight ahead, he really meant you're ok, get going, which was not straight ahead, but 45 degrees to the left.

We have gotten a lot of laughs over that story.

By the way, don't try the extra bottle thing if you are coming by land from Mexico or Canada. Thats another story, but one of the lines went like this, "I don't care if you are from the Moon, you owe Texas duty on one bottle". That was after the Feds had already poured one bottle down the toilet as I watched.

Thanks for the information! The clerk at the duty free liquor store insisted we could take two liters back each, which of course, when we got on the plane found out otherwise. Since we had three between two of us, we gave one to a friend to carry though. We had no problems at customs at all, but after you go through you do have to put the bottles in your checked baggage to recheck on through. It was not a problem at all. The liquers were so awesome...cool bottles and only $9, I sure wish I could have brought back a dozen to give as gifts.
I will write a trip report later this week....
