I got an email from Buddy Dive saying that their dog, Puck, had passed on. While we stayed there, we had a blast watching her on "pigeon patrol" at the pool bar. I am donating a lot of animal supplies in her name to the bonaire animal shelter (I own an online pet supply store). I hope everyone who knew her, will remember her just as fondly as we do.

OH my heart is breaking and tears are flowing! I am so very sad to read this! We have stayed at Buddy Dive, every year, since 1999 and always loved giving her belly rubs each time we came "home" to BON! During our visit, last month, we saw her every day in the pool bar.

Cat, thanks for letting us know and THANK YOU for your donation in her memory!

Puck
Announcement
We are very sad to announce that yesterday our beloved Puck died.
Puck was suffering from a tumor, which caused her a lot of pain. Unfortunately the doctor could not help her anymore and therefore we had to put her to sleep after being with us for over 10 years.

Puck was a very nice dog. She was loved by all of our staff and a lot of our guests. Many of you took really good care of her when you were with us at Buddy Dive and she was often treated like the princes of Bonaire. She loved to hang out around the restaurant and wait for your leftovers, only when she did not feel like this was enough she came to us for real dog food. She loved to be around people and get attention.

Puck always started her day at our front office to see if all staff arrived in time. When she was happy that everybody arrived she moved to our pool bar for lunch and dinner to make sure the pigeons would not bother you too much and of course to see if there was anything left for her.

When the restaurant closed she joined the security staff to assist them in their duties and to keep an extra eye on Buddy Dive.

We know puck had a great life here at Buddy Dive and we also would like to thank you for that!

We will all miss her presence.

While not unexpected (she was getting pretty old), this hurts....

Ten years of visits to Buddy Dive, and I swear every time we returned Puck remembered me. Just about every morning around 6am I'd head out for a walk, and if I didn't find Puck she would always hear me call her name and before I knew it there she'd be trotting down the sidewalk to catch up with me. We'd frequently walk from Buddy's to Eden, and by last November that was about all the old girl could take -- she'd be exhausted when we got back -- but she would always follow me. Never fed her even a bite of food in all those years, but always stopped to talk to her and give her some affection. She was, believe it or not, a consistent highlight of my trips, as well as a joy to be around. I miss her already.

Such a touching story and sweet pup. It's lovely that the Buddy Dive staff and their visitors are remembering Puck in such a wonderful way.

I never met Puck but I can tell from this thread that I would have fallen in love with her, too.

Puck, best to you on your journey to and through the Rainbow Bridge...you will be a great addition to the already sweet and loving members. cb

I have tears. never saw or knew puck, but what a wonderful tribute.

Cat, will you please put the web address of your online store in your profile? since there are a lot of animal lovers on this board, who buy things for their pets, we also have to buy stuff to take to the shelter:-)

Sure. I put it in there. Anything that is purchased for the shelter will get a 25% discount. Puck was really special, and I would like to help out as much as I can, in her name.

Hi, Cat. That's wonderful! I just checked your profile page but did not see the web address for your business. Could you check again for us?

Thanks! Carole

I will miss Puck. When Seb and I stayed at Buddy's, she and I would do a walk-around just to make sure everything was okay. I don't know who enjoyed the walks more, Puck or me.

She would really perk up if there was a lizard or pigeon to chase out of the restaurant area, though!!

We got to know Puck when we were there a month or so ago. I'm not allowed to feed our dog anything off the table at home, but with Puck, well, that's another thing entirely, and I relished the opportunity, but maybe not so much as Puck.

Puck was a great dog, and like others will miss her. I hope Buddy's considers getting another dog or two, not so much to replace Puck, but to remind US of what a wonderful time we had with her.

I don't know how Puck could live so long at the restaurant, and never become a mooching pest (like my dog!). She'd take food when offered, sometimes... but I never saw her beg. She definitely was more awake and aware on Steak Night.

Here's another Puck story for you.

On one of our trips to Buddy's, Puck and I were particularly close. She was so excited about joining me on my morning walks, that on mornings when I wasn't walking and would go to the front desk to exchange towels, she would run up to me at the desk, then head towards the road and look back at me as if to say "well, are ya coming"? I'd have to say "sorry Puck, maybe tomorrow," and she'd look awfully disappointed.

She also had this thing where whenever she would see me, she'd walk over and lean up against my legs just knowing that I would bend over and give her lots of pets and belly scratches. She would see me sometimes out on the boat dock, come limping down the stairs, and come up and lean against me just asking for some lovin'. She even saw me eating breakfast one morning and came wandering up to me in the upstairs restaurant and leaned up against me -- of course she was escorted out of the restaurant as that was always a "no Puck" zone.

Hopefully Coo (the black and white cat) and Screamer (the screaming cat) will still be there for our trip in October. They camp out on our patio during most of our trips there. They are always there first thing in the morning, and are always there to curl up in the sun and join Gale for her afternoon siesta on the patio. Casper (the white cat) passed away a few years ago. Buddy's "pets" (or are they just permanent "guests") have always been a source of joy for us on our trips back "home" to Bonaire.

Coo and Screamer (wow that cat is LOUD) stayed on our table outside our room the whole week we were there. No matter what time of day or night it was, that cat would scream everytime it saw us through the window. We actually had to keep our blinds closed just to hide! I remember I gave him some chicken, and he tried to scream with the chicken in his mouth! That was hysterical.
