Home wastewater

l
Law of the flush

Chapter TWO
Wicked mind's eye

Every living organism from the smallest embryo to the largest elephant has the three basic functions of life. To eat, to propagate and to defecate. - In one manner or the other nature has provided for all this. Naturally.

However! We humans from the beginning have always had the will to foul our own nest,,,, But before this century we never have had the power to impose total planetary destruction,,, chaos,,, and irreparable damage,,, as we cascade toward an irreversible abyss

If not managed with sense and reliability here on our small island our common waste could spell the termination of our national heritage. Our reefs.

This concern of mine has become so serious that the .The Accolade foundation of Bonaire( who's main object is human conduct with-in environmental issuers). Has sponsored this pamphlet in the interest of public health and possible solutions. And further to better understand our present handling of our home wastewater.

Read on..

To Further to comprehend the good and bad in natures own doing. Human waste. Lets us do a walk through.

Wastewater management in your own home.

THE LAW OF THE FLUSH

I have selected a worthy collection of related articles that I feel will prove amusing as well as educational.

Getting Technical

1, Our primary problem with wastewater disposals the total inadequate knowledge of the systems requirements as with the ongoing shortsighted planing for new construction on all island properties. Not only shore sites . I speak of every where.

2, A simple productive method for coping with tourist hotels is, by reducing the quantities of water outflow. Unfortunately most separations of the WC flush from the other waters, IE, Tub, shower, lavatory sink. etc. had never occurred to anyone it all goes into the same tank.

3, When waters mixed with that of the WC Flush, no matter where it might enter the septic tank. It all becomes Fecal tainted. like Broth, Aid, or Tea., all the same There is no such thing as a Gray Water coming from any tank that has a W/C attached. this tank can produce only Fecal Effluent’s (wastewater.)

o the FECES the villain
4, Feces, excreta and stool, are the waste products of human digestion system. The normal daily stool of an adults is a little over a half a pound. Besides food products, up to 20 percent of this weight is intestinal bacteria. Other constituents are digestive secretions, enzymes, fats, cell debris, electrolytes, water, and small amounts of protein. The characteristic odor of feces is organic chemicals, It is the Feces that contain the parasites.

o Urine A co-partner in crime.
5, Urine is an aqueous solution, formed by the excretory system in humans and periodicity released from the body. It is composed of organic and inorganic substances, primarily metabolic waste products and water. Freshwater drinking animals, for example, need to rid their bodies of excess water. In the average human adult, about 1.5 to 2 liters each day.

6, Human urine is usually acid. Further, it contains creatinine, inorganic salts, and the pigmented products of blood breakdown, such as urochrome, which gives urine its characteristic yellowish color, Normally a very high N2 factor.

7, The treatment of sewage and waste water is to removes those characteristics and constituents that are objectionable

8, A septic tank is a device that treats your sewage, it consists of a buried, fully or partially. Made of concrete, steel, or in some case fiberglass with two or more compartments through which the sewage flows horizontally and is kept out of contact with air for a minimum of 24 hours.

9, A spontaneous biological action, mostly in the first chamber. Liquefies much of the organic matter, while heavier fine particles settle to the bottom of the tank, hopefully this occurs in the first two compartments. Where bacteria convert some of the organic matter into methane and carbon dioxide. The solids accumulate and can interfere with this bacterial action, so they must be pumped out periodically. (Selibons 9 m3 truck)

10, Bacterial action is also impaired by disinfectants and excessive detergent the effluent of these tanks, thought no visible solids are normally seen. Remains highly polluting and requires further purification Its a fact that further untreated effluent wastes in it's self a significant source of soil nutrients and is what a poor garden craves. However when present in a pristine sea sponsors an algae, which suffocates the living polyps destroying a healthy reef system.

The rudiments of a Septic tan

11, Resort properties require a minim of 3 chambers or more. My preference is the conventional 3 chambers with a fourth as a reservoir equal to a least three days of volume flow. A holding tank waiting disposition.

Sizing of the three #1-30% of total #2-20% of total & #3- 50% of total. The fourth thus becomes a reservoir.

12, This tank has a combinations of four compartments, which makes this tank a very modern treatment center. Let us do a walk though of the system that I am outlining. This tank is only magic when built well and treated with respect, and used as designed.

I have designed this system for home garden use. A sensible safe way to dispose of home wastewater's.

13, For example. Raw Sewerage, maybe with a little shower and sink water added is all that should enter the first chamber. Number one chamber is the most important of the lot. This where the digesting is done. Laundry water with soaps and bleached can slow down if not destroy the bacterially action that is taking place and should enter the third chamber.

14, Many contrator do not realize that you don't pour toilet waste from an open pipe directly into the floating mass of the first chamber.
The use of a baffle which allows the flush to enters the tank with out stirring up the mass.

15, The second chamber is the one laundry water should be placed into. Again a baffle. Take a look at how the liquid flows. First tank fills and spilling into the second. The second when filled flows into the third. And so forth. Pls. note that the slug and scum are mostly in the first compartment

16, The terminology is divided into three parts. Floating of on the surface is greases etc called SCUM the heavier solids sink to the bottom, which is called SLUDGE. The clear liquid between these two is called EFULENT. It is this that is the irrigation water that we are after. The effluent which is gathered in the final compartment..

17, A reservoir. there is little bacterial action-taking place here. It is now, with this compartment that a decision has to be made. What to do with the water now that the solids have been removed. At this point the magic of the tank turns to reality.

For every drop in, that drop must come out. the question -To where?
