Bonaire has a group of individuals who are skilled, provide great customer service and is a real asset to Bonaire's tourist industry. IMHO Michael is a member of this group.

I am humbled and always here to help anyone. It is not about paybacks, but more about passing it on to someone else who may need a kind word or a favor...That is one of the reasons I moved to Bonaire.

Once again Vince I have to agree with you , There is a very positive group of people who really believe in their piece of paradise and their customer service reflects their dedication to the tourist industry.
It will be these people who will be counted upon to keep the cruise ship deterioration at check. At Cai i saw a group of cruisers loading up Conch shells in a tour van , I usually keep my mouth shut but i had to ask the guide if they were aware that stripping the beach is against stinapa rules , seems they are exempt from the same rules divers are subject to . The cruise ship takeover is my only concern about Bonaire , a local group of caring islanders needs to be born and i nominate Michael Gaynor to lead the charge , if anyone can keep them at check it will be Mayor M Gaynor , cmon Mike , you need another challenge! Dont take any guff from those swine!

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but, you've GOT to be kidding me about the cruisers being exempt from the STINAPA rules !! If I understand this correctly, a cruiser can pillage anything and everything from the waters of Bonaire? Honestly, this whole cruise ship thing is really making me sick in my stomach. BTW.... I have met Michael and he does seem to be a great guy.

Don, I think the rules apply to everyone, I'll bet the tour guides did it for a bigger tip!

They are seeing with $ in there eyes, out goes the rules.

Mayor M Gaynor , I like that!

I have notified The Director of Stinapa and TCB and they will get to the answers, etc.

Good for you Don.
If you are aware of a problem and choose not to speak up, you become a part of the problem. I think that Bonaire needs all the help they can get to protect their assets.
That means the guests (us) on the island have a responsibility to respect those assets and help keep them for future generations.
I need to clarify that I in no way think that there is any laxness (for lack of a better word)
on the part of the authorities on Bonaire. They just cannot be everywhere at once.
OK, off my soapbox. Enough off topic on this thread. Back to the rightful praise of the standout citizens of Bonaire. I have not had the pleasure of meeting Michael in my past three trips, but intend to make an effort to do so this trip. Having read so much about him on this forum I think I will be honored to have the privilege of making his acquaintance.

Lloyd,

Any identification info on the van/driver/guide at Cai for Michael to pass on to the proper authorities??? A pic would have been ideal.

Parrot fish have always been a staple for local consumption. It is called Gutu in Papiamentu. It is never seen on the menus in restaurants, however. I know it is distressing but it is next to impossible to stop them from being caught.

Parrotfish have on occasion been a special and I have to admit are VERY good. Also for the first time on island we just had mussels at Wil's. Sorry, we got the last 4 servings. Yummmmmmy!!!

The mussels are imported and you can buy them frozen at Tropical Flamingo for about $10 a kilo.

Thanks Michael, we'll have to pick some up. Now we'll just need the sauce Wil cooks them in...:-)

Also, missed you yesterday as we needed to rent a phone. Hope to stop by again and say "hello".

Thank you to Michael who helped my gf wrap up a picture that she bought at the festival in Rincon last week. I wasn't sure we would make it back to the states without the airline/tsa folks giving us a hard time but it made it back unscathed. I really want to thank Michael for being so helpful.
