When I lived in ANU a friend had a mail box of sorts in Miami and she would have packages sent to her there..it was far cheaper and faster..I think they came to her on Antigua via a container..not sure..

Since I am running this event in Dec. I want sponsors and such to send my goods (t shirts, banners etc..) to me in BON vs me trying to take everything with me..

Any tips/ideas??

Annie

Hi Ann,

Try to have Elvis chat to Maricela or Robby (owners of Rocargo) to see if they can sponsor you guys for bringing stuff down.
I forgot the rates.. somewhere around US125 per 40cft. plus a bunch of charges for documentation and bills of lading. Then when it gets here it needs customs clearance. That also costs money to make the paperwork apart from duties. You won't get a tax free status for this I'm sure.
So when you send stuff down make sure you 'consolidate' all your different small shipments into one lot going down to Bonaire. You can e-mail Amcar with a list of suppliers to deliver and they will hold all untill everything has arrived in Miami. If they decide to sponsor you this is not such a big deal but it is when you have to pay US25 and US30-40 for B/l & docs each shipment on top of yr cft. charges. Still with me? ;-)
If you want I can make and run yr customs paperwork through. Used to do that for 7-1/2 yrs. Still remember many of the customs tariff codes... no problem. Don't worry about the duties unless you have high value goods. Duties are a percentage (variable per commodity) taken from the C.I.F. value (Cost, Insurance and Freight) Promo's/freebees do not usually have a high value. For customs you'll need a commercial invoice to attach to paperwork. Mail me direct for info on that part ok!?
On another subject concerning the KOTC... what are the arrangements sofar on getting the equipment in from the participants? Most likely their stuff needs to clear customs aswell. A bond may have to be placed with customs refundable upon goods leaving the island again. Elvis has experience with that.
Also transportation of equipment from airport to event site. When I was still working for Rocargo I voluntered many times with the Rocargo truck to haul all the equipment back and forth.. that was for the Flamingo TV wave challenge at Cai. I'll be willing to help out again however I do not have access to the truck anymore. But still have all the knowledge about the paperwork.. keep it in mind.
Cheers,
Bas

Annie,

Listen to Bas :-) (He's who we went through when he worked at Rocargo - now we work with Patricia there - we do consolidations every 6-8 weeks ourselves - we just tell AMCAR to hold everything for us until we feel we have enough to justify the minimum handling fees - taxes average out to about 16% of the declared value - 10.5% for duties, and 5% for sales tax. Definitely the most economical way to get large volumes of things to Bonaire as long as you can wait at least a week or two).

Jake
