The Bonaire animal shelter, a wonderful organization IMHO, is having its 2nd annual art auction on December 7, 2007. If you are on the island it will be easy to attend and bid, but you can also bid via email from the auction wed site.

The auction web site is:
http://www.qabonaire.com/bonas/index.html

The main shelter web site is:
http://www.bonairenature.com/animalshelter/

With all the BTer's traveling to Bonaire at various times, I bet if we work together we can get auction winners their stuff. This is a great chance for us to help a good cause from home and while on vacation.

The shelter is also accepting donations of pet toys and supplies for the new, soon to open shelter store. Contact them at the main web site for suggestions of things to pack that they can use.

Disclaimer - My wife and I are not directly involved with the shelter, but obviously are supporters. I am posting this based on information I have received about this event. Please join us in this auction event.

Patrick & Susan

Thanks for sharing this! My box of shelter goodies is, most likely, already on island. Thanks in HUGE part to Michael and the brown truck :-)

Wishing nothing but HUGE success to the shelter. With each future trip there will be goodies in my suitcase for the furry, four legged residents of Bonaire :-)

Jane and her team do a wonderful job there!!!!!!

Maybe I'm too tired (missed nap today), but I can't see where the actual auction will take place here Friday night--at the Kas di Arte, or...?

Hi Ruth, the auction itself begins at about 8:00-8:30 at Sunrise, the restaurant/pool bar near Sand Dollar. There is also an Indonesian dinner that starts at 6 prepared by one of our board members, but I don't know if there are any tickets left for that (only 100 were available).

Hi Kobi, thanks for the thoughts, I heard the auction last time went very well!

Jane, appreciate you posting and hope this thread helps with the auction fun. Susan and I only wish we were at Sand Dollar so we could just walk over.....o well.....

Many already know, but for those that don't, Jane is one of many people that put many hours and hard work into keeping the animal shelter a wonderful place for Bonaire's most needy animals.

Question Jane - Did my little buddy Ralph find a good home yet? Sure hope so!

Patrick

Patrick, Thanks for the kind words, as hard as the work is it is so very rewarding when are animals are adopted and when so many wonderful people like you and all the other generous BT'ers give us so much support.

Wanted to let the BT'ers who are on island know that there are many more items that will be auctioned besides the ones on the website....so if you don't see anything you like on the website please don't let that keep you away...come to the auction and see all the other really wonderful items that are up for bid.
Jane
P.S. Your little buddy is still there, Patrick, but had a bit of an identity crisis...turns out Ralph is Ralphalina!!! Someone tried to "sex" the kitten a little too early so Ralphalina spent the first few weeks of her life thinking she was a boy. But don't worry, she went through therapy and is quite comfortable with her new identity and a little bit longer name!

Jane :-) Glad the kitty now knows who she is & so do you guys.....LOL! You are too funny!

My prayers are that the auction is a GIGANTIC success!
I hope you can feel our hugs from afar. Everything you and the staff do there is hugely important.

Hi Jane, who knew...Ralph was a....Ralphalina! Still the cutest kitten on Bonaire IMHO. Really hope you get a great turn-out tonight, and please do post how things went. Susan and I did bid on one piece....fingers crossed as it would look great in the condo.

Hi Ruth, just saw you are a Jersey native, where abouts? My wife and I were both born and still live in central Jersey, with as much time spent now on Bonaire as possible.

Kobi, when you going to Bonaire next?

Patrick

Patrick,
Rob and I are toying with February; it will be nice, cold and snowy here in VA! Perfect time to go back to paradise :-) Not sure I can put it all together but my fingers have been pounding at this puter for a while trying to make it happen!

I hope the auction was a HUGE success, Jane!!!

Dear BT'ers...The auction was a HUGE success, from the dinner and the auction our furry friends received approximately 15,500 Naf ($8,707.00 US dollars)!!!!!! For those of you who may have bid on line but did not win your item...TAKE HEART...the fact that the opening bids were so high based on your internet bids made the prices of the items go higher at the live auction and the furry people got more money!!!! Thank you all so much for "helping from home", the funds all go directly to animal care not for staffing so your generosity is greatly appreciated by the animals. Look for another auction in 2009!!! Again...THANK YOU!!!!!

Jane, thanks for the post and thats Fantastic, so glad everything went so well. Susan and I did not win the painting we bid on, but glad to have been a small part.

Please do post here or email me directly when the shelter store opens. Will be good to have the word out and also to let people know what to bring for item donations.
