Hi everyone.

I am planning on bringing my digital camera to Bonaire when we come this September. I am debating whether to go buy more smart cards or not. I have a tendancy to take tons of pictures, and since I now have a housing I'll be taking underwater photos (and mini-movies) too.

Is there anywhere on the island that I can download and burn a cd of my images? I already asked at Buddy Dive, but they have a computer available for internet surfing only. What about camera shops? Do any of the camera shops have facilities, or services to download smartmedia cards? If so, how much would they charge, and can it be done while I wait, or would I have to leave them my card?

On the same note, can I use my battery re-charger? My camera uses aa batteries, so I use the rechargable kind. Do I need to bring an adaptor to use it?

Thanks in advance for the help, and sorry this is so long!

Renee

What type of media are you using? I recently helped set up a system at Kodalux at the Harborside Mall (downtown) to be able to copy images from CompactFlash, SmartMedia (the flat ones Olympus uses), and MemorySticks to CD. Only catch is that it uses an intermediary program to load the images and then burn them - it's not a straight copy and it takes a while (about 15 minutes for a 128MB card (it's because it's a turn-key system for film & slide scanning and the digital film support is an adjunct function to that application).

You may want to check with the dive shop you're diving with to see if they have digital imaging facilities to assist you in your needs.

As far as chargers go, unless your charger can handle 127V, 50Hz, you'll need a voltage stepdown transformer to bring things to 105-110V, 50Hz (not something you can find in the U.S. too easily, but some dive shops/hotels have them for rent).

Jake,

Thanks for the info.

I have an Olympus 3000, so I use Smart cards.

I'll look on-line for the step down converter. Is it different from the converters you use in Europe? I used one of those last year in Spain, and it worked ok.

Jake,

I have an Minolta Dimage 5 and, this camera works on on NiMH batteries (1800 mAH) I cahrge them with a GP Powerbank3. On 220 volts. Can I charge these batteries on Bonaire ?? I know that Huub (thats where I am staying) has 220 volts???

Rob,

The 220V here runs as high as 240V, but it's all 50Hz, so I would guess if Huub has a 220V standard outlet it would work fine.
