I remember reading that a large cruise ship was coming into Bonaire on Halloween weekend,
Any news about it?

Hi Lorraine,

Over Halloween weekend, the only cruise ship in port was the Freewinds. We did however have the QE2 in port last Tuesday. What an amazing contrast in size between the two! The Freewinds has a max of 300 passengers, while the QE2 can take 2025.

The complete list of cruise ships coming to Bonaire can be found at:

Jake,
Are there any pictures you can post of the QEII
docked in Bonaire? I'm having a hard time visuallizing it. Thanks.

Tony - it was not much difference in Kaya Grandi to a busy afternoon around Christmas. Part of the cruise ship passengers are always on the road to tour the island with the sigthseeing busses.
By the way I am Brigitte from the Beefeater - and we are open again

Jake -
I might have a picture of the QE2 taken some years ago if you want me to look.
Think it was the second time the ship had docked there. What is interesting is how LONG the ship is!

If it's easy enough to find and scan, please e-mail me a copy. If not, don't fret it.

And yes, it is a very long ship. It was docked at the customs pier (across from Anker'tje and reached almost over to the pier behind the customs house. Yow.

I think that one of the best pictures of the QE2 in Bonaire is found in the opening pages of "Watercolours", showing the ship from the air, with Klein and the whole spectacular island scene in the photo. Is this available as a post card or in other similar form?

Jake - I am still looking for the picture - I am back 5 / 6 years but I think it must have been way before that. Enjoy looking at all the friends we met on Bonaire all these past years and wish we had taken more pictures of people rather than things!

Just returned from 2 weeks on Bonaire and will be preparing a trip report. Went to visit Michael Gaynor and delivered his Folgers coffee. Had a nice visit to talk over some Bonaire happenings.

I remember being on Bonaire one Christmas when the QEII came in. It docked in the early am, and really looked like an enormous floating island on the way in. the ship is so huge that it presents great wind resistance and you could play the mooring lines like violin strings. It took the 2 tugs to dock her, but when she took off, theyjustdropped the mooring lines and the wind pushed her into the center of the channel and off she went!

Someone on island did think to take a picture of the QE2. Here it is from Shelly Craig.

The pic. is great! Gave me a view, but it must have been really interestig to see in person, especially on Bonaire . The QE2 's size is awasome.
Mash danki for finding it and posting.
Thanks to Shelly too.

How long have cruise ships been coming to Bonaire? And in such frequent visits? Are there concerns about the environment being disturbed by such an influx of visitors. It's great for the economy, but it's seldom good for the ecology.

Any thoughts............

I read the latest ENews Bulletin. (Excellent, as usual!) The Whale story caught my interest, especially. My heart tells me that perhaps this young whale threw itself in front of the mighty cruise liner in protest!

I realize this is not actually what happened, but......
