Can anyone tell me more about the connection between Bonaire and Simon Bolivar. Was he ever on the island and why? Obviously there is a bust and a street named after him but I have not been able to find out the reason.

Take a look at the Amerindian information in the History section of the page at http://www.bonairediveandadventure.com/shorediving.html. The indigenous people of Bonaire were Amerindians ... the same people that Simon Bolivar liberated on the mainland of South America.
