I was just in Bonaire for my third wonderful trip a few weeks ago. While touring the island it appeared that a group of girls had taken residence at some of the slave huts. Is this some type of school project? Seems strange with the historical significance that someone would set up residence there. Just curious.

Russ, I can't imagine a bunch of girls taking up residence in the slave huts. Maybe you are correct and it was a school project, for them to experience what it would have been like to live in the huts and such. Locally we have a tall ship, somewhat like the Mayflower. The schools have an overnight field trip where they spend the night, have to take turns with "watch", eat, sleep, and live like the pioneers coming to America did. My stepdaughter did this when she was in 4rth grade. We wrote her letters from "home" as if she had been on the voyage for months. Still a very memorable trip for her today, and she's 19!

They definitely were not experiencing the true experience. There was a fresh water tank there for them, I am guessing 800 gallons, a portable generator and a LP fuel tank apparently for cooking with.

I would guess that there were maybe 4 girls about 16 years old. They seemed a bit young to be out on their own. When we stopped they were at the beach but headed back towards the huts when we stopped. They had chairs there, they looked like they were there for the duration.
