It is a lot more than a waterfall. There are freshwater wading pools and lots of hisorical artifacats at Fontein. I will have some material for you to read when you get here. It has been private for quite some time and now it appears that it may be open to the public again.

I thought that I read in the Reporter that it was open to the public-- Stopped up there in Feb to check it out --but it was closed-- didn't have a sign with the hours. Maybe someone can find out some more info.

I think it is open to the public.. just depends on if they are there or not. They used to have a phone number on the gate to make appointment.
It's a pretty cool place. Lots of green. They have started a small banana plantation and keep a variety of birds. Most of the times there are Lora's around as well.
Water runs out of a cave and is being caught in basins whre you can have a swim.
Access is easy by car.. no climbing.. just a few steps to get to the basins and cave. After the basins the water is devided over the plants and trees at lower levels.
Last year I walked around the island with my dog and a friend.. it was the best overnite of the trip.. the people there were very friendly and made no problem about us camping there overnight. I had a very nice matress of a pile freshly trimmed banana leaves. :-)

Hi everybody.
I haven't been recently at Fontein, but in the summer of 2000 I was there. It is kept by partly an Aruban-Bonairean family. When you want to visit Fontein, you should go in the weekends, because then they stay at Fontein. So it isn't completely open for public, but when you are interested, they like to show you all of Fontein. They are very friendly!
And it really is worth your visit.

We went last week. It was fun and funky but not what I expected. I have seen amazing waterfalls in Montserrat and Dominica and knew BON did not have that but..

It is a cool lush area with fruit trees, caged birds and then a fresh water swimming pool with slimey algae bottom. Then there is a cave (I would NOT go in) with a little trickle of water. It was a refreshing swim but nothing to rave about.
