I posted a question a few months ago about non-alcoholic beer.

http://www.oldbonairetalk.com/newsgroup/messages/27/234307.html

It's getting much closer to our trip and I still don’t really understand.

Here what I took from that thread,

If it's call malt it has no alcohol
Additionally, If it's called malt it taste like rubbish
Bavaria Malt may taste like beer, and may or may not be available

Anyone have any better insight, suggestions?

Jay,
We were on Bonaire a few weeks after that thread last August, and at that time Cultimara supermarket had Bavaria "Sin", which I know in french means "without", and the label also had "0%" on it -- ie. zero percent alcohol. It's pretty good. Regardless of what others say, the stuff that says Malt or Malta does not taste like beer.

Jay -

The "malt" beer we found on Bonaire 2-3 years ago bore no similarity whatsoever to "malt beer" found in the U.S.

In fact, a local (whose initials are JR and one of the founders of BT) educated us to the fact that the malt beer we found at Cultimara was what mothers gave to small children with stomach problems.

After that counsel, we did not open the cans, but did leave them for the housekeeping staff.

Things may have changed and others may have more current intelligence.

Jay,
Scott is right - Bavaria "sin" has no alcohol. It is the only NA beer we have on island. You can buy it at Warehouse, sometimes Cultimara, and Joke's Mini Market (near Carib Inn) usually has it as well.

Various restaurants also have it but be prepared to pay the same price as a "Bright". Those restaurants are "It Rains Fishes", "Lost Penguin" and "Pasa Bon Pizza". If there are others I am not aware of them

Isn't Amstel Malta an NA beer?

Yes, it is and I have seen it here, just not on a consistent basis. It seems quite sweet to me so I discounted it, my mistake. Susan
