Hi, All!

Four of us (all Bonaire first-timers) will be arriving for a week in June, staying at Eden Beach (I think). I can't find any info on what brands of beer/rum are available on the island. Can anybody help me?

I did see a post somewhere on the message board about purchasing rum in San Juan during the layover. Is this recommended?

Thank you!

It appears to this non-drinker that the local favorites that are available everywhere are Amstel, Amstel Brite and Polar. Quite a few other European beers around in various places, but you won't find any consistent selection of American beers in the Bud, Coors, Miller, etc., and all their various Lite concoctions. I'm sure others will chime in with more helpful info.

wendy, you can buy amstel, amstel light, amstel brite, polar, and heineken, as well as a few other beers on bonaire. i usually stick with amstel due to the returnable bottles. i like polar but don't want to fill contribute to filling up the landfill. if you have time in SJU go to the duty free store and buy rum. bacardi is about $7/liter at the duty free store.

Amstel no longer comes in returnable bottles. The brewery in Curacao closed a few months ago, and all of our bottles are now the no-deposit style.

Rules against self-promotion prevent me from discussing which bar and restaurant has the most brands of beer on the island.

Cam,
What temp do you recommend the Polar in the thong? I will practice before the trip. We might have to hold Sheryl back, bring some rope.

Thanks for the post... My husband just stated he was wondering what kind of beer he'd find on the island. I love wine and was happy to find out about the Antillean Wine Company. Only 12 more days!!!!!!

Our favorite beers are Amstel Bright and Heineken. Rum and vodka in SJU is very cheap. A new beer or us, Carib, is being heavily promoted on the Island including passing our free beer at Cultimara. Do you know that it takes 2 beers to buy bread and cheese?

i believe carib beer is from trinidad..if it's the same that i've had here. hope they are still offering samples when we get there.

Con-Sales is importing Carib from Trinidad. It is reasonably popular and a lot of people like it with lime.
