I noticed somewhere that the $6.50 room tax is not collected if a person stays longer than 30 days. Is that true? Arriving on April 6. Can hardly wait! 8th. trip to Bonaire.

I think you have some bad information. Could you be kind enough to let me know the source. Thanks.

Michael, I heard this last year from Sun Rentals, but since I have inquired I found out that they used to do this but the gov't. "changed the law" or maybe simply enforced it.
I liked the idea a LOT tho....

Someone else told me that if you stay longer than 30 days your excursion ticket would be no good if you had booked a package. When I looked on Expedia, I could book for over thirty days no problem, it was mandated to return within 60 days.
Maybe we have been talking to Miss Information, or her sister Spurious.
Seb

Sun rentals sort of falls into a grey area in that they rent long term as well as vacation. The rule of thumb should be if you are not a legal resident, then if you rent a place from a commercial establishement, then you are liable for the taxes. Also, most airlines will sell 30 day tickets. Anything beyond is a one year tix and a lot more money. signed, MORE information!

Thanks for the info Michael. I think I read this in one of the questions in this newsgroup, but I couldn't find it last night. Just thought I should check before arriving at Lions Dive, so I could sound informed. Hope to get a chance to meet you while in Bonaire, Karen

People keep telling me about this 30 day restriction Michael. I can book a 35 day round-trip on Expedia with Air Jamaica, no problem. The rules state it is a 60 day maximum stay, not 30. I have been told that an excursion fare , as with a package, is only good for a thirty day stay. But the rates seem close or the same between the (sometime)excursion fare and regular booked thru Expedia fare.
At least for next summer.

The 30 day fares are airline policies and some may or may not have them. I can't figure out why they had them in the first place unless it was for rate protection.
