Anyone have information on how to go about kayaking and/or snorkeling in the mangroves? What is it like? Where do you rent the kayak from? How much does it cost? What things might one see while snorkeling in the mangroves? Any info on the topic would be great. Thanks.

We organize daily guided mangrove kayaktrips.
In 1998 we decided in a meeting with the Bonaire Marine Park not to rent out kayaks but only to offer guided trips to protect this fragile area. Special the seagrass beds, soft corals and sponges.
For the same reason we don't encourage snorkeling in the mangroves.
During the kayaktrip you'll see almost as much as while you're snorkeling.
All trips are guided by a very knowledgeable guide.

Hi Chris: Buddy Dive Resort also leads both kayak excursions and snorkel trips through the mangroves. During the kayaking, the highlight for me has always been the bird life. You will have a chance to approach herons, (including the great blue), the snowy and WHite egret, pelicans, and many more species. You can also see quite a bit into the water, where you will see very colorful upside down jellyfish and many juvenile species of fish. Then there is the peace and tranquilty derived from the relaxing kayaking itself - very nice as you go through some canopied pass-throughs. For snorkeling, I think the highlight for me is finding tiny tiny barracuda. I have seen them as small as 1 inch long - already equipped with their trademark scowl! Many juveniles hiding under the mangrove roots, and the bonus of being at beautiful Lac, which in my eyes is the most scenic spot on Bonaire. I hope this helps, and you thoroughly enjoy your stay.
