I have noticed quit a few posts to a scuba newsgroup about theft on Bonaire. I can understand the theft at remote shore diving sites but the group was talking about theft from rooms at resorts. Does anyone know if this is a reason for concern or is it just more of the typical newsgroup bashing? I am coming to Bonaire April 20 through April 27 and staying at Buddy. This is my first dive trip and I am traveling with my instructor and will complete ow on Bonaire. Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

Buddy is quite secure and has in room safes for valuables. Just use the common sense suggestions throughout the threads and put your mind at ease. Have a great time.

Thanks for the information. I was having a hard time understanding a big crime problem with all the repeat tourists and good trip reports on Bonairetalk, so I decided to ask people in the know. I live in a very small town in West Virginia and I can guarantee that a car sitting alone in the wilderness with valuables will be broken into. Those things happen when you have humans in an area. I guess common sense helps you not be a victim. Also, my homeowners insurance covers theft if I file a police report.

rick, you will have a great time. buddy's is very nice. just keep all your valuables in the room safe (money, wallets, passports, jewelrery) and when you do your shore dives, leave the windows down, truck unlocked and NOTHING of value in the vehicle. shoving a camera under the seat will be found. we only took our flip flops, cheap sunglasses, and shorts. leave everything else in the room. the island is so small, after each dive we just went back to the room if we needed money.

Rick, Bonaire is the first island that I have ever dared go to without my husband and I feel very safe there.
