Hi, folks! I am considering purchasing a particular housing for my Fuji Finepix 6800Zoom digital camera. Ellen Muller was kind enough to give me the name of a product which will fit my Fuji. I was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this particular housing and what results they have had and the degree of difficulty in using it, etc.

The product is: Fuji Zillion Fuji FinePix 6800. The site is:

http://www.marinecamera.com/fuji_zillion.html

Any input would be much appreciated! I tried to throw out a question or two directly to Fuji from their website, but was unable to locate an area that would accept my electronic inquiry! Thanks again! Carole

Hi, Susan. I just checked out their site but did not find anything for the camera I have. Thanks for the tip, tho. Anyone else out there have a Fuji Finepix 6800Z and have a housing for it??? Thanks. Carole

Aynone else out there who can help me? I tried about twenty five different web sites last nite and found nothing that would fit the Fuji other than the Zillion listed at the site above. I can't even find a housing at the Fuji site. Thanks for any input anyone might have!

I am curious to know if anyone has tried the Zillion with the Fuji at all and if so, how they like the results, etc. Thanks again! Carole

As far as I know, the Zillion is your only choice. While they don't have the specific housing you mentioned on their website, you may try these folks. They should be able to get one if you want it, and may be cheaper.

Carole, I don't think it will be easy to find users of that particular housing. Most digital u/w photographers are using Olympus, Canon, Nikon or Sony cameras. You could try e mailing Marine Camera and ask them if they could put you in contact with someone who has bought that particular housing. I originally found out about the Zillion housing on the Wetpixel Forums on This Thread but there are only questions there about the housing, no comments from anyone that has actually bought or used the housing.

You could also try posting your questions on either Steve's Digicams U/W Forums or on the Fuji Forum on Dpreview but don't be surprised if there are no answers!

If you do decide to buy the housing, definitely try the link that Greg posted. Good luck!

Carole - I'm sure this approaches the outer limits of conspicuous consumerism, but at $695 a housing for your Fuji is very close to the combined price for an Olympus 3040 (a 3.3mpx zoom with a pretty fair rep, especially with the underwater photo set) AND a PT-010 housing (...also with a pretty good rap sheet!) On reflection, this actually seems like a pretty sound option; I'm sure I can rationalize having two digital cameras....one for topside use and one for underwater...LOL.

Good luck

Anthony...I was thinking the same thing, myself. I guess I will be the guinea pig IF I go for the Zillion housing. I was hoping to get some feedback as this camera can shoot up to 6.0 million pixels and also performs 2 minutes of video with audio at a shooting. It does so many things and I was hoping to be able to try them all out. I have to "think" this one out for sure! Thanks again. Carole

Carole,

Why don't you call Marine Camera and talk to someone there? And call Helix in Chicago (800.334.3549) and talk to Dennis in the underwater camera section. They can give you comments on the Zillion housing and possible alternatives-Dennis has been straight with me about gear in the past. Helix will also have a booth at Beneath the Sea the weekend of 23 March at the Meadowlands (http://beneaththesea.org/index.shtml). Paul Schutt, the president and owner of Helix, usually mans their booth there. And there are always 5 or 6 other booths with u/w camera gear.

The show is a good take, if you haven't been yet. And you can join a BT gathering there on Saturday--would be at least you guys and me--Peggy Bowen likely will not be there; Jack Chalk may be. It would be a shame not to have all those pixels underwater!!!

Thanks, Glen. I will have to check Joe's work schedule...he might be on duty that weekend. I will give Marine Camera a call, too. Can you just imagine that many pixels at work underwater?? Wow. Thanks again. Carole (Shutterbug)

thanks, Freddie! I have my photo shop looking around, too. He feels it is worth it for me to get a housing for the Fuji Finepix 6800Zoom to test out the pixel capacity and other features on this baby....I might go for it...don't know yet! Thanks again for everyone's help. Carole (Shutterbug)

Thanks, again, everyone! I have made a decision....went to the camera store today and picked up my new photo printer...bought the Olympus CAMEDIA P-400 model (outrageous setup) and I discussed my underwater options with my buddy who owns the shop....I decided to go for the Canon Power Shot S40 (brand new) with an underwater housing to fit that model. I have to wait for the camera and the housing as they had not yet been distributed to the stores. It is supposed to be a great set up with 4.0million pixels, 3x optical zoon, 11x digital zoom, movie mode with sound voice memory and lot of other great things. It doesn't have the pixels the Fuju has, but the housing was approximately $200 so I will have the housing and the Canon S40 as well as the Fuji Finepix 6800Zoom to play with! I went overboard, but what the heck.....I have not uncrated the new photo printer yet...that is inside in the other room. What I love about this machine is that I can use it totally independent from the computer, too, if I want to. Professional quality photos with lots more. I think I am hooked...what do you think?? LOL. Thanks again for everyone's input, suggestions, comments and links, etc. I will let you know how the Olympus printer works and the Canon S40, too, once I have it. Oh my....I AM out of control......Carole (Shutterbug)
