My husband and I are planning on coming down to Bonaire in the next few months to visit and enjoy. We originally had our trip planned for 9/15 however due to the events of 9/11 we were unable to make it. We are also planning a family therefore scuba diving will be out. Can you tell me what other activities and attractions there are in Bonaire to keep us entertained for a week. Thanks and can't wait to be there.

Kari, there's plenty to do on Bonaire if you're not diving. Here's my suggestions:

1. Snorkel (it's helpful to pick-up a snorkel guide)

2. Spend some time at WS Park

3. Visit the salt mines/slave huts

4. The Donkey Sanctuary

5. Shop!

6. Lay back and enjoy the sunshine.. Sarah

Kari, you're most welcome.. and just so as you know, we've been visiting BON for 6 years now (this Summer) and I'm not a diver (yet)..

Where do you plan to stay? If you want to be at a Resort, I'd suggest the Plaza Resort and BelMar Resort. The snorkeling at both places is very good too. Plaza has a nice beach, and at BelMar the rooms are oceanfront (very close), big private terrace, BBQ facility and there's also a pool.

take a look at:
http://www.plazaresortbonaire.com
http://www.belmar-bonaire.com/

Don't be put off by people saying that BON is for divers only.. it's not.. there's also some fantastic windsurfing on the Island (if you're ever interested).. Sarah:)

We have a room reserved at Captain Don's from our original honeymoon package. Have you ever been there?

Now I am really excited about coming to Bonaire...you have sealed it for us. THanks again

I loved my room at Captain Don's Habitat. It was HUGE with two king beds, large balcony (very private) and full bath. The only problem was NO WIND so no air on the balcony (Aug.) and mosquitos.

If you LOVE cats, you will love Habitat. Also they have the best pizza at Rum Runners.

Say hi to my windsurf friend and dive master, Juni Englhardt at Habitat Dive.

Thanks for those tips I would have never thought of the mosquitos. We are psyched for our first trip down there and need to plan it pretty soon. What are the best months to be there? I would imagine that summer is scorching.

Kari, I was there in Aug. and aside from town I was comfy. In October the same. My friend who moved there said there was no wind and it was humid in Nov. and early Dec.

Kari,

I do not know but that is the windy season...I will defer to others in the know. I head back in 37 days, then a month this summer and a month in Dec.

Whooooo

We have to take the trip before September for our honeymoon deal. They (Captain Don's)gave us one year from early September to take our trip (very nice) so we are trying to get down there in the next few months.
So I take it you are there right now, live in Cape Cod and already have 2 more trips planned. Wow you are definately a good person to talk too about Bonaire.

THNX Kari..windsurfing is my passion and positive adiction. Bonaire is THE place to learn. Shallow see to the bottom warm water. Email me for more info as I have been there 4 times since Aug. Gosh, it is windsurf paradise.
