There is a 4 part series beginning on TLC tonight titled Blue Planet. 2 episodes tonight, 2 on Monday night. This series has been getting rave reviews and is probably worth a look if you get the chance.

Very good show. A bit disturbing at times, but that's nature.

I've been banging on about this for months!
It's not often we get something on this side of the pond before "you lot" is it?
It's the BBC at its very best & I hope that you all find it as rivetting as I did.
The film of the sail fish is my favourite, but I don't think there's one disappointing piece of footage in the entire series.
I think that I might throw my entire video rig in the bin. Even my best efforts pale into insignificance when compared to the studio floor clippings from these guys!

Well said Andy. Can you imagine some of the positions and situations the videographers were
in? Best thing I've seen on tv in a while.

Conflict, conflict. Ally is on at 9, thank God and Sears for the VCR. I fell asleep during last night's Blue Planet show. Weird problem, if I really, really like a show I can't stay awake, if the show sucks I'm wide awake. There's got to be name for this syndrome.

I have a TV that's only used to show videos (we don't have the self-control to have a TV actually plugged into the world!!), so I'm bummed to miss this.

If anyone is videoing them, and would be willing to share them with us, I'd be forever in your debt.

When we're in Bonaire, we have a TV, and it's SUCH a treat --- and we watch all sorts of things we never would otherwise, just for the novelty, I think. Aren't people strange?!

I was mesmerized by both episodes. But i had to avert my eyes when the killer whales were pursuing mom & calf. I knew how it would end and i couldn't bear to watch. I wish they would edit out the graphic footage so that children could enjoy the program, along with adults.

When your a diver you have a whole different prespective. My husband and watched the show together last night and loved it. But I kept saying God do you know how cold that water is, think about how much equipment their dragging around in that water and just think where those divers are to get that picture. I can't wait for the show about the Photographers. You know they will have one sooner or later

Meryl

Fear not, it is out on DVD in the UK, so soon it should also be out in the US. The DVD version has lots of extra features about how it was made etc. I really recommend it on DVD rather than video, it is excellent.

I feel somewhat comforted by your falling asleep during the Blue Planet, Cecil....
It's become harder & harder over the years for me to attract an audience to view my underwater footage. These days I invariably have to bribe "friends" with a free meal first.
Within 10 minutes of me hitting the VCR's start button, apart from the few who are still demanding more Scotch, they're all snoring their heads off!
Perhaps I shouldn't feed 'em until after they've suffered the film?

Hey, I stayed awake last night. Glad I did, the blue seas section was unbelievable, still can't get over the whale coming up throught the bait ball, and the sounds of a bait ball. The segment on how they got those shots was fascinating, they had to cruise for days for a few minutes of film.

pps. if you missed it, they will be showing the first 4 episodes again this friday, feb. 1 at 7pm (all 4 in a row) eastern and pacific.

I'll have to remember to program the tivo... if anybody is unable to watch/tape, let me know and I can dump my tivo recording out to video (for friends and family use of course, since we are all the bonaire talk family :).

I watched the first night and at the beginning of last night I was wondering if it was the same show because there were alot of similarities .. (tuna jumping etc...) but by the second show last night it was very different - The Deep ... the entire series though was awesome!!!! I loved seeing the penguins fly through the water and jump up on the ledge. And the birds that fly down into the water, fairly deep, and yes the whale attack on the baby whale was horrible - but still so interesting to see (the poor mother continuing on her away after the baby was 'gone'.)... it was definitely great video photography and I will see it again and again!

Cynde, the best I can do is, I wouldn't do that again (been there, done that, got a poppie suit not a teeshirt).

Cynde, I've been down to 1,000 feet in a 3-person submersible - it was simultaneously the scariest and most amazing experience of my life. I'd be game for 3,000 feet! --Deborah

Ken, you never had the picture window watch at the front of the Seaview, on the watch for giant squid. I hated that duty, too boring, I prefered the main turbine switch to the hull watch (in case of giant squid attack).
