Has anyone made a side trip to Venezuela while on a trip to Bonaire?

Is there any reason to make such a trip?

Mike

Venezuela is a beautiful country ... but
1) it is rather difficult to go there from Bonaire, you have to go Curacao first and than take a flight to Caracas or Valencia, these towns are not interesting and you need time to go inland ... or you fligh to Aurba and go to Punto Fijo (oil town on Paraguan) and you have a 1 hour drive to Coro, which is an interesting town (spanish colonial center of town ... medium mountains just a short drive away)
2) the political situation in Venezuela makes it not very inviting, you never know what happens next
If you are still interested, send me an e-mail

Hi, Mike! We have always been urged not to venture in that direction. Bridgette has mentioned the main reasons in her post.

We just don't feel it is worth the "risk" in today's climate and atmosphere in the world....you will find plenty of things to do, explore and enjoy right on Bonaire while you are there! You won't have the time to see Venezuela once you get into your Bonaire Mode and frame of thinking! LOL. Have a great trip! Carole

Cheeseman agrees with Juan. It's been like 16 years since we were there but Canaima, Margarita and Los Roques were the high points of 3 weeks in Venezuela. I think maybe some of the local boaters do 2 or 3 day trips to Los Roques.

Been offline for a while with new job, but I should be back online a bit more now.

Check with the US Dept. of State for any advisory before you make plans.

I am planning the same in Nov., and have found a great difficulty of getting the arrangements of flights. However, we have panned a quick 5 day trip to Angel falls and Orinoco Delta, then off to Curacao for a few days and back to Bonaire.
I think it will all work out and am looking forward to it. But yes indeed one of the most difficult trips I have tried to plan.

As Michael says, check with the US Dept. of State. They don't have great feelings about Venezuela at this time.
