This article is from the Amigoe today:

ATHENS/CURACAO – The sprinter from Curacao, Churandy Martina (second from left) didn’t qualify for the semi-finals of the Olympic’s 100-meters yesterday. He went third over the finish in the first round, but didn’t make it in the quarterfinals.

This is the first time that an athlete of the Neth.Antilles came this far in the Olympic Games. Martina noted a time of 10,23 seconds in the first round and ended third, while in the quarterfinals he ended 7th and noted a time of 10,24. He looked very relaxed in the first round. His start was not so good, but sprinted the last meters and so claimed the third place after Green of the United States and Thomas of Jamaica, who respectively took the first and second place.

The other Antillean sprinter in Athens, Geronimo Goeloe will run the 200 meters on Tuesday. There will be 7 heats in the first round. Which heat Goeloe will be in is not yet known. The starting shot in the first heat will be at 10:20 Greek time, which is 03:20 Antillean time and 10:56 (03:56) in the last heat. If he makes the first round, he will run the same day in the quarterfinals.

Why are no Bonaire wind surfers competing? I was disappointed to see so few folks from the Netherlands Antilles.
