My Dutch friend in Boston always brings home this amazing cheese from Holland. He calls it "Olde Cheese". Does anyone know of it and does any shop in Bonaire sell it? It is not gouda, edam or any other similiar cheese. He says it is simply "olde cheese".

Oude kaas is aged cheese. Gouda merely is cheese from a section of Holland. Knowing cheese is like knowing fine wine. There is even a special one made from the first milk from cows who have eaten the Spring grass there fore the name Spring Cheese. Yes, we have all kinds of cheese available on Bonaire, but the real McCoy is only availabe in Holland. Makrket Research: Anyone think a good cheese shop on Bonaire will be able to survive?

They have quite a few very good cheeses in Holland that they do not seem to export. I can find some Dutch cheeses in LA but a much more limited selection than what you can get at a grocery store in Holland. Whenever I go over there I stock up.

I know if there was a good cheese shop in Bonaire I would have sure bought my share. Cultimara ran out of Gouda and I had planned to buy some there to bring home.

Well, special requests can be posted and if i can find a small bit of room I might get some OLD cheese next april.... But the room in my luggage is pretty valuable (in other words, I take a lot of things along...) :)

Hi Martin,

Here's our special request :-)

- Dutch childrens books (ages 4-8), used is fine
- Dutch childrens video programs (originals, can be used) (have to be on NTSC VHS or NTSC Region 1 / No Region DVDs)
- Dutch childrens software on original CD-ROM

Any and all of these you could manage to help us help Yana & Bas become properly educated in the Dutch language would be great! (And we'd certainly reimburse you for the expense of buying these)

Jake

I'll see what I can do. I'm not verry into video, but the video's can be in "normal" VHS??

If I'm working on the snorkel issue, Angela can talk dutch to Yana and Bas, so they can answer Linda and you in dutch if you ask them something. That would be nice..... :)

VHS is the tape stype. NTSC indicates it will play on U.S. TVs (you guys use PAL format in Holland - I don't have a PAL compatible VCR :-( ).

Nice idea about Angela talking Dutch to the kids.

Hi Jake, Martin,

I guess it will be difficult to get NTSC video tapes in Europe. What I can offer is to convert any video Martin finds into SVCD. Jake, do you know whether your DVD-player takes SVCD? I'll look around as well for some Dutch books/videos/educational games. We happen to speak sort of the same lingo in Belgium (the Flemish side anyway).

My wife and I are comming to Bonaire on March 10. That gives us some time for looking around and possibly ripping some VCD's.

Peter

Peter,

Both our DVD players indicated that they can play Video CDs, but my attempts to burn such CDs and have them read have not been successful (don't know why). That certainly would be a solution (worst comes to worst they could watch them on one of our computers).

Thanks for the offer and thought!

Jake

Peter, I was refering to your personal quote in your profile. In Holland we had a commercial with that line. It was "Bros" and not Spa...

I'll be there from april 28-th 'till may 26-th.

I don't think we'll meet then, the day we are flying, you and your wife will suffer mayor PBD, I guess :)

Old gouda (5+yaers old) comes in a black wax seal.
It does not taste like gouda, or smell like it. It is a bit on the hard side. It will also have some type of grit in the cheese; I think it is a form of sugar? This cheese is to die for!
I got it at the Cult…. last year at a mistake price, nf 6.00.
Look for OLD AMSTADAM. (Spelling?)
