A young Bonaire boy's birthday wish list includes "stifts" under the category of arts & crafts. Anybody on Bonaire know what this is????
I thought may be what we in US call pipe cleaners, or may be popcycle sticks? I am clueless:-)

According to BabbleFish it's "styli", plural for "stylus" in English. Maybe he needs pens?

I'd be interested to learn more about wishlists for kids on Bonaire...is this through an organization of some sort?

"Stiften" is Dutch for markers. I imagine that is what he is referring to.

felt-tip pen is what my dictionary tells me "stiften" are. It's the ink-pencils children use to colour/draw with. Amy is right, my first guess was that he meant this too!

Denise, Have you heard anything from the Hoppner Foundation? I have given up trying to reach them by e-mail.

My kids told me stifts were "colors" and pointed to their markers. I picked up a multi-set of Crayola markers for each of them and they were happy. Another good choice would be colored pencils - the ones we get here are usually very poor quality - very soft and break easy.

thank you everybody :-)

Tom, I do most of my contacting of the Hoppner foundation by way of Renee who co-ordinates the sponsors. Although, I did just email an individual there who works closely with the kids with questions like what is my sponsored little boy's favorite color, shoe size, when can I visit him in October ... etc. too soon to say I have not yet got a reply.

Brian, the birthday wish list is of a boy I sponsor at the Maria Hoppner Foundation. He is a sweetheart . . . They can always use help of any form, even if you are not necessarily interested in the committment of sponsoring a child (not a big $ investment, but it is something you would not want to change your mind later on as it hurts the boys when this happens). if interested in more info email me and I'll send you contact info.

Denise
